If you like a more arcade-orientated snowboarding game then get SSX3, if you prefer a more simulation orientated game then get 1080.

I believe that there are indeed a few tricks missing, due to the gamepad configuration. But Max's comment isn't saying that they are all missing, as his sentence could be interpreted as saying... Coming from the amazingly informed position of not having played the GC version, I would say that I doubt it really makes a vast difference that there are a few tricks missing here and there. It will be a far "trickier" game than 1080.

If you like over the top tricks, where you can do breakdancing on the board in mid air, with fireworks in the background, then get SSX.
If you like racing or doing realistic tricks in a half-pipe, then get 1080 Avalanche.
If you want to play the best snowboarding game ever, then get the ntsc version of N64 1080.
