For those wondering what GFX card you need for this on PC, Tom's Hardware has done quite a bit of benchmarking.

It looks like the 7900 XTX is beating the RTX 4090, that is until you look at the power consumption and the NVIDIA card is using only 66% of the power.

If you want more frames per second though, there is a DLSS 3.0 mod from PureDark - you will need to pay £4.50 for a month's Patreon support to get it, but it might be worth it if you're using lower-end 40XX series cards.

Doesn't seem like an issue to me, fancy having to pay someone for work they've done (the DLSS 2.0 mod was released for free).

Is that scale for playing at 1080p i take it?

Not entirely sure as there are two options in the game - probably needs a read of the full article. You can turn on FSR (which will upscale as required) as well as change the base render scale. From this is sounds like the base render is set to 1080P (so 100%) with FSR turned on.

Looks like that’s the 1080p scale. The figures for 1440p don’t read so rosy. Basically anything below a 4070ti is going to struggle on ultra at 60fps, even a 4070 struggles, but obviously your tweaks will vary for getting to 60 and above.

          4k is eye watering.

I'm playing at 4K with 75% scaling on Ultra with the DLSS 2.0 mod and I'm getting a nice smooth experience (obviously at a high price point). I might pay for the DLSS 3.0 mod, but I don't really feel the need tbh, I'm pretty happy with the performance I'm getting.

To be honest, seems mostly about right and running it in 4K at a ballpark of 60fps seems fairly doable. Setting Ultra across the board is always a bad move given so many of the demanding settings make next to zero on screen visual difference when set lower in any game so there will be plenty of performance to be clawed back before even modding DLSS into it. Then there's the bit the article touches on of how patches in the next few weeks will swing things also, all in all should be fine.

Has this got full RT on pc as well?

No, it's an AMD-sponsored title, there is no RT, which is a shame because RT in this game would look great.

The lack of exclusive full-screen mode in this game is annoying - as the article touches on, if you want to play at 1080P on a 4K screen, you have to switch desktop resolution in Windows (or use the scaling, which gives different performance/visual results).

Can it run at 60 on SeriesX, of course it can, they just couldn’t be bothered.

Do we think Bethesda could have got RT working on their engine? Without it breaking to unacceptable levels I mean?

60fps on an Xbox at 4k?

It's 30fps on Xbox, but to be honest (and I love me 60), it's been absolutely fine.

It probably could but it wouldn't have been consistent enough. Sure maybe VRR would h help as well but that's a small minority of players.

I think they made the right decision. I've put in about 12 hours now across Series S/X and I haven't been bothered by the frame rate at all.

I thought I wouldn't be saying that either... but it really is a very smooth and decent experience on the consoles. Maybe in future they can add more options ... we will see.

Bethesda has dropped an update for Starfield

This first update is a small hotfix targeted at the few top issues were are seeing. After that, expect a regular interval of updates that have top community requested features including:

                              Brightness and Contrast controls
                              HDR Calibration Menu
                              FOV Slider
                              Nvidia DLSS Support (PC)
                              32:9 Ultrawide Monitor Support (PC)
                              Eat button for food!
                              Full details here: https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfie...tember-13-2023

Not sure if that is DLSS 2.0 only yet (probably would be my guess), I'll check in a bit.

Okay, I think I misread, I checked and it has none of what's listed above - then I re-read the post and those are coming features in later updates. D'oh.

Time to put the DLSS mod back.

I looked at doing some mods, too much faff for me, I'll happily wait for the official support now that it has been announced. Fingers crossed it won't take too long.
