Polymega

There has been little to zero talk of this modular unit.

As I just went full out on it (almost), I figured I’d start a thread. 1990’s console gaming in full HD with scan lines and all manner of other stuff seemed like a good thing to me. £488 including 2-Up controllers despite NOBODY playing games with me nowadays seemed good at the time. Yes, I coulda just gone with a £150 Retro Freak and not have to wait for six months to get it, but it seems too awesome to me.

Anybody else been following it?

Never heard of it. That's quality.

I take it you've gone for the Ultimate bundle then?

PCE, MD, SFC. I’m not a fan of the Famicom lineup outside of Mighty Final Fight. It’s probably a HUGE waste of money, but I’ll deal with that in the morning.

It looks like a good unit to me.

Buying one of those when drunk is the same as waking up in the morning after a huge night on the town and turning over in bed to see you've spent the night ****ing jabba the hutt. Hangover remorse. It looks nice, it's not worth the money, especially since they dropped FPGA which it was initially meant to be.

Software emulation with an FPGA to talk to the custom chips on some cartridges. It's selling points are that it looks pretty cool and is designed around letting you play legit carts and discs. The emulation - I predict - will be no better than what we already have. We'll see though.

I concur, looks like ass. Another Hyperkin Retron kind of mediocre halfway-house.
I don't condemn the desire to do something other than what's been attempted before, just seems a little too workman-like.
The SuperNT and more hobbyist stuff like the Mist (and Mister) Fpga show the way to go.

One thing for sure is that the kit looks great.

Crikey. I didn't know about these. Once they can handle the 16-bit systems and the majority of MAME I'll be the first in line for one.

I like their no nonsense design too - just a totally plain cream coloured box with inputs and outputs on it. No other bollocks.

dataDave: The SNES and Genesis don't work so well yet. The Amiga works really well and I've heard that the Atari ST is pretty good on MiST (even the Midi ports work well, apparently, if you get that version).

You can only get the midi port version now. Nice system.

Will probably either get cancelled or fail to live up to it's promised functions. Would be nice to see one actully do what it's promised.

This one kind of reminds me of the laseractive which has those CD & PCE modules that you could plug into it.

The thread on this on AtariAge makes for fascinating (or horrifying) reading...

This will go nicely with the Retro VGS / Coleco Chameleon
