    Lost in Progress

Have you ever played through a game to a certain point, then something else has come in and you leave that original game for a while, and when you come back to it you have no idea what you were up to or what to do? If so, name the game, and mention where you are up to.

For me Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver has caused this problem. I got up to a certain point (I know it's after the first battle with Kain but I have no idea where I've been after that) and I just can't figure out where I was up to and what I should be doing. Even an FAQ isn't helping me out. It's a pain.

I also got up to the Tyrant boss on the plane in Code Veronica, and I'm stuck there because I don't have enough of the right type of ammo. I guess I'll need to restart in this situation.

This applies to about 75% of my games

      Same here

I got "lost" on Code Veronica as well. Right at the start of disc 2, and I had to restart GC Biohazard a few times because I forgot where I was supposed to go next...

I prefer playing games that don't require me to be involved with storylines and plot developments.

*tip* write what u was last doing on a piece of paper or the notes section of the instruction manual so you know what you had to do next.

See that requires effort, which is never good. Heavily story based games should have kind of journal that records progress. What youve done, recently picked up clues/items etc, a sort of "In last weeks episode our daring adventurer..." type of thing.

Morrowind - started good, but i got bored due to the repetitive nature of the missions. That, and I ended up accidently glitching my game to hell.

Left it, and decided to go back, but was totally lost. I was up to roughly the bit after the big godess statue, where I had to get myself named hortator or something, now Ive lost all clue as to which people I should visit.

ALso, the game journal is now like over a 100 pages, with no auto search or anything. Far to open ended, and easy to get totally lost.

Its a good topic for sure, but Im still surprised that some games can have such badly designed game mechanics, as to create such a problem.

                Another one, is

Grandia 2 - met the annoying blonde kid, and found the game so annoying, I gave and went off to enjoy SoA, when I came back, I had no idea what was going on.

I stopped playing Chrono Cross for a few months 30 hours in, didn't have a ****ing clue what was going on when I went back to it. Had to weigh up whether to use a FAQ or repeat all those hours. Took the wimp's way out

Morrowind for me as well, occasionally I'll start a new game and really enjoy it for a while then the realisation kicks in that you've been playing it for two weeks and you've not even made a dent in it. You have a break and you're lost again. If they had made it so the journal had all the locations in it and told you the objectives you'd been given in that area, it would've been a lot more pleasant to play. As it stands, it just gives me a headache.

                    Definitely.

Sonic Adventure had something like that. And Phantasy Star IV had a feature where you could talk to your team mates who would then discuss what was currently going on in the game.

Games, especially RPGs and adventure games need features like these.

in Kingdom Hearts too, there was a diary featuring a resume of the story.
And let me tell you about Code Veronica
