The contrast between this and Edge's review is laughably stark.

Edge really does try to make the game sound more interesting than it is by using abstract, flowery language. It's borderline sophistry. The Games TM review OTOH specifically calls a spade a spade.

Don't think the score was unfair at all, tbh.

Actually, and I don't usually say this, I thought EDGE's review of Manhunt was absolutely spot on.

Subs copy arrived this morning. Better late than never i say.

Bit disappointed on the depth of the hitman game considering it its on the front cover. From memory it was one or two pages

Best bit was seeing all the different drafts of the game covers. Proper bo.

It WAS supposed to be more, but... well, I can't really say. Bah.

Good issue liked the lkittle preview of Biohazard 4 aas i did not know exactly what the virus was. N the Snk V Cap Chaos review i thought was fair and gave good examples of the pros n cons of it.

Yeah the preview was far too short, though I was impressed that even with so little text I got a fair idea about the game I previously knew nothing about. Arguably gave away too much plot though, and I really dislike it when magazines\websites give details about the plot, before adding "and then things really get going" (or whatever). I know it isn't giving away any specifics, but things like these get my mind wondering, and often what I've pictured in my head to be the big plot twist is more interesting than what actually happens.

Think the Sixth Sense when that came out, so much hype was made about the twist that I spent the whole time trying to work it out rather than watch the film.

I like this issue, and the cover is the best in a while.

One other thing though - just before the review section you fill a page with loads of screenshots of the months 'big game', now, I really like how you do this, but I like it more when there is a little caption somewhere on the page. So there

Any magazine that extols the virtues (or whatever) of Grosse Point Blank is a good thing..."I'm hurt, I'm Pissed and need a new job"

One thing i don't like about the magazine is the covers.I enjoyed the feature that showed all the unused covers from the magazine though and to be honest alot of them are much better than those that were used.
The advance wars 2 cover with the two tanks facing each other, Most of the sims 2 covers are so much better than the one that was used (IMO It's probably the worst cover).the FFX-2 cover and the viewtiful Joe cover, They're all so much better, ALthough obviously the guys foing the cover think differently.

Oh and the one with the model kit is probably the best of the lot.

The covers that are shown in that feature are a mere smaple of the many covers that we have produced over the course of the year. For example, the Sims cover alone had 40 iterations (and we had back-up covers for other games that same month if the Sims cover fell through).

There are some covers that we would have liked to have run with, but sometimes we don't get permission to use the artwork (in the case of the Zelda Tri-force cover - we wanted to run with the Triangles, but Nintendo thought other wise), sometimes a cover proposal doesn't get approved by my bosses or the artwork isn't quite big enough... It can be very frustrating at times.

Interestingly, the Sims 2 issue was our best-selling issue of the year, and to be honest, I thought that it was one of our weakest covers.

                        Rgds,

                        Simon

Got it this morning. Along with loads of games I ordered.

good issue, apart from a couple niggly little errors. (I swear, you guys do it so we have something extra to entertain ourselves with, its not just a magazine, but a magazine with a game built in! So, whats everones high score for mistake spotting? )

                          Kidding.

Glad you did the bad covers feature, more people need to know that. Should have put examples of good artwork side by side for comparison though.
UK Ico art > USA Ico art for example.

Liked the headhunter preview, HUGE fan of the DC version, found it much better than MGS2, but then again, I didnt like MGS2.
I fear it wont be as good as its prequel, heres hoping otherwise.

Really liked the step-by-step retro feature as well.

Cover feature was interesting as well, never been a fan of CG, so it was interesting to see some covers that never made it.

Reviews wise, I cant say, since I havent been following any of those titles with any excitement.

One final thing, "Tim Stafford" in the retro letters section, I swear Ive heard that name somewhere before, is he a poster here? Definetly heard that somewhere else.....

Overall, not my favourite issue, but I have read other far worse magazines. Keep up the good work.

The worse thing that I noticed about The Sims 2 cover straight away was the mis-aligned texture on the base of the bread bun on the table
