I used to stay up playing Shenmue at the weekends: "i'll just get past this bit then go to bed" ten mins later "I'll just get past this bit...". It was one of those games you could play for aaaages.
These past two weeks i've spent my time playing NFS Underground for quite a number of hours. T'other day, my Cube must have gotten annoyed after it'd been on for 6 hours, which is very new for me. It made a loud beep noise so i left it for a bit *pats it*.
I've stopped myself playing Shenmue II for long hours from fear of sending my DC on the fritz...

My record for sitting playing a single game was probably 12 or so hours playing Xenogears one Sunday.
I remember coming out of that vf session feeling totally physically and mentally exhausted.

As for other games I think xenogears was definitely the worst for me as well, I would play it till I was falling asleep, put the pad down for a bit, take a little nap, and then start playing again. I don't think I put my psx off all weekend.

I used to be like that with a lot of rpg's though, 8 hours of ff7 a night when I first played it, finishing kotr in three days, shadow hearts and grandia 2 in about 4.

Now I'm lucky if I can be bothered playing an rpg for 2-3 hours :/

I've mentioned it in a similar thread before a few months ago, but the longest I've ever played a game in a single stretch was Ocarina Of Time, for about 12 hours straight during the Christmas of '98.

I did play Metroid Prime for six hours last night, but that just reminded me how much I hate its incessant back-tracking.

The RPGs do tend to encourage the player to try to beat as much as one go. Most notably KoTOR and FFX. Completed the first after 30 hours in about 3 days (by which point I hated the thing), and the second I never completed.

Usually, I can't sustain such long periods of playing. I can only sustain about 1 hour max of Ikaruga. I played Viewtiful Joe for 8 hours straight once. Incredibly draining.

RPGs aren't as synapse-sapping. Indeed KoTOR pauses the game before you enter combat and for the most part, is all about pressing the X button over the critical strike symbol. FFX was even worse, with no time limits.

'Course, the same criticism could be levelled at Pokemon, but no one disses that glorious series whilst I'm around.

I remember playing KoTOR and Battlefield 1942 through the night and then going to bed in the morning. Only one I enjoyed.

Didn't give up even though I was getting PWNed.

Been playing an unhealthy amount of PGR2 recently. Think I'm addicted to Live as its stopping me from playing other games and even to the point that I'm wanting to buy more games just because of the Live feature. Must have plugged in more than 30 hours in the last week.

Think my longest is 14 hours straight on Tony Hawks 3. Wouldve gone back to it when i woke up but the PS2 passed away during my sleep.

I've never played as long as that on any one game, maybe 6-7hrs on Civilization but thats about it. However, last summer me and three mates decided to find out who was the greatest gamer before we all went off to different uni's/jobs etc. and have a tournament. It lasted 14 hours, with 30 different games ranging from qucik 1 player challenges in Mario 64 to all out olympics in Track and Field on DC. We went through over 40 cans of beer but didn't get that drunk because we were drinking slowly and steadily, and we ate 4 pizza's and over 30 packets of chrisps. It was an endurance event by the end...but I won !! Still, it was so much fun we've decided to all meet up and do it again next summer!

I've done quite a few 10 hour sessions in my time and I've found them to be quite draining. I am a wuss though, since I can't play beyond 11pm, since the ol' eyes start to close, even with the aid of matchsticks and caffeine.
