I wish I'd known that from the off

I've finally finished KOTOR having defeated Darth Mallak after numerous frustrating attempts.

Once I'd discovered that you could activate equipped items from the menu rather whilst in the throes of battle, the final confrontations became far easier.

I guess this serves as a lesson to read the instruction manual thoroughly before starting a game in future.

My question is has anyone else had to endure hours of frustration in a game as a result of not reading the instructions, or overlooking some very obvious feature in a game?

Or you could just pause the battle and activate them?

I completed Wind Waker without using the auto lock on button

Made a ridiculously easy game marginally more difficult, which I was grateful for.

Yes, but you can only do one at a time. If, when you fight Darth Malak he disengages you you can use as many as you wish in the item menu!

I find Zelda games hard TWW is tough! ft:

Do you mean activating item in the menu give instant results, rather than cueing them in battle (can't be bothered going trying this myself)?

Really? WW was my first 3d Zelda (played GB/GBA Zeldas too) and I died once, during one of the boss fights (due to not using the auto aiming thingummy ).

Thats what I was getting at, otherwise you end up having to queue your actions. I had plenty of life packs, so it was simply a case of disengaging, running around in a benny hill style to accumulate Force Points. Pausing the game and replensihing all my power ups, etc.

I'd have never beaten Ganondorf if I hadn't realised the auto lock on gives you a warning when he tries to attack, allowing you to parry. Otherwise I wasn't getting ANY blows in without using it.

I played Dungeons and Dragon Heroes... and it was only at the very end of the game i realised i could have gone back to the shop and sold/bought stuff at ANY save point..... simply by casting one of the many warp stones i had picked up...

I did read the instructions mind - it said they could ONLY be cast at warp points... i just had no idea that they meant save points....

                  Oh the shame....

There are three types of game that I'm bad at: Fighters and shooters becasue I'm not willing to put the time in, and Zelda.

I got pretty far in Link's Awakening, I got to the Water Temple (on my own) in OoT, but I completed the game with a friend so couldn't be arsed to continue. I CANNOT COMPLETE LttP FOR MY LIFE. I've got both the SNES and the GBA versions and I can't do it. It took me 4.5 hours to do the first temple (after you save the princess, or whatever). Then I was so annoyed, infuriated and extatic that I'd done it I couldn't remember where I had to go next. I walked around for another 2 hours and broke my SNES cart! Oh well. And in TWW, I played it for a while and enjoyed what I did quite a lot. But then I got stuck and annoyed and now I don't know what I'm supposed to do, what my goal is or how I can do it. But I sold my PAL version of the game and bought the US one now. When I get more time I'll have to start from the beginning! ft:

I made it to that Native American boss on FF7 in cosmo canyon then was stucko on him for about a week...then my mate told me you could just use a pheonix down on him and he dies instantly ft: .

Slightly off topic but what the hey...Would you rather have a hefty manual to read but get straight into the game, or would you prefer a small manual and a tutorial/training at the start like the zeldas and marios. I think tutorials are best but they are a small reason why I don't go back to new games very often because I can't be bothered to do the damn training again!

I entered a Colin Mcrae Rally competition once.

Only after I'd finished 6 stages did I realise you could repair the car in-between stages. The final 2 stages I had no steering >_<

I didnt know collecting the piles of sand in PoP gave you more sand in your knife. I fifnished the game with only three vials.
