    BPX048: A Game of Patience

We're mere weeks away from the next-gen launches of two consoles and multiple GPU variants for PC ushering in the dawn of the new gen. However, the lack of a preorder approach for the RTX line and the incredibly short notice MS and Sony are leaving consumers on their confirmed details is going to lead to a desperate push from gamers to try and secure their preferred unit on launch day.

The question this time is simple:

If you look unlikely to be able to secure the system or card you intend to buy, will you cave for one of the others if you can get it as part of the launch period hype?

Absolutely no chance would I fail to grab a 3080 and go with a console instead, especially not a Series S/X.

That would be pure lunacy across a number of levels.

      PS5 all the way, baby!!

I've "registered my interest" in a couple of places so hopefully I'll be able to get one form somewhere.

I'm going after the PS5, if I had to wait a few weeks that's fine as Spider-Man isn't a first party game I was that knocked for six by so it'd mostly end up liking running Black Ops CW or PS4 stuff. If supply chains were so bad that I stood no chance of getting one well into the new year (given Jr3 is about to hit too) then... well, it would be accurate to past form for me to re-evaluate the PC GPU situation despite what I said in the other thread

Xbox Series X 100% day one purchase for me provided I can pre-order direct from MS and use my store credit and rewards.

PS5 most likely in 2021 when the dust settles, I have just bought God of War, Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn on sale digital on PSN today as they're discounted...

You better have used different names otherwise Sony will have deemed you unworthy and you'll be on Sony's blacklist for trying to buy multiple units

I'm in no rush to buy any of them this year - I'm going to wait for the suckers to get the launch units with the yet undiscovered defects and opt for the Rev 2 boards

I was going to try and get in on day one for a PS5 but I cant be bothered going through the rigmarole.

If I see one while out and about and the price is right I'll probably get one but there's no rush.

My PC is from 2014 and still plenty fast enough. Its not a priority upgrade at the moment.

I've been an early adopter in last two generations and it was exciting initially but ultimately a waste of time in terms of games. I think this next leap will be an especially damp squib due to mid-generation upgrades and lack of game development due to Covid. So I'll be sitting tight for mid-gen revisions, ta v much.

PS5 for me too. I've been given the green light so I hope I can get one at launch. It'll be my first launch console since the 360.

I’ll get a Series X on day one hopefully. Might grab an S for my nephew’s birthday in late December too. I’m worried the S will be in short supply for a while after launch.
I would like to know more about the BC and VR situation on the PS5 before diving in. And some hands on time with the controller would be beneficial too.

I'm in for a PS5 at launch. I'm just feelin' it, this time around. I didn't bother with the PS4 till Witcher 3 hit, and that still feels like the right call considering how little came out in the first 18 months.

This time around, there's just enough to pull me in - I'd like to catch up on some current gen stuff in 4K on my new TV, and Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clank are two decent year one generation-exclusives that I'd like to play.

Launch is looking like a bit of a **** show software-wise across both platforms.

                      My plan is probably:

                      1) Buy Miles Morales with launch day console
                      2) Smash through Miles Morales and trade it against Cold War
                      3) Get through Cold War's campaign before Cyberpunk 2077 drops
                      4) Play Cyberpunk 2077 until my thumbs fall off, with occasional breaks to get shot in the face by 12 year olds on Cold War

That's on the basis that PS5 beats Cyberpunk to release (Cyberpunk's slated for Nov 19th). If the PS5 comes out Nov 19th or later, tbh I will probably just play that on it on day 1.

Microsoft done screwed up for me.
Loved 360, did the whole teevee teevee watercooler no sharing thing, then had to u-turn on everything.

Xbox one would be an amazing value console if you're happy with monthly subscriptions.
Got a PS4, bought a load of games, so I'm invested in it now.
I'm not looking for a fresh start.

Still just starting out with the PS4, it feels like, with bargains galore.
Not thrilled at the prospect of buying £60 games again.

All my mates have PS4s and I don't think they're getting new consoles.

Feels like I'd be getting it for the thrill of the new, rather than because there's something I want to play.

Bit gutted I'm just not feeling the excitement.

Can't be arsed with any of it, already have an Xbox One X that I barely turn on, from what I've seen of "Series" X, there is no upgrade to be had. Plus I'm in the gamepass ecosystem so PS5 seems also a no aim.

I feel like I've got more than all bases covered with PS4, Switch and Xbox One. More games than I have time to play, especially after years of free (okay, not free) monthly games on PS Plus and stuff. But I also know I'm a fool for the shiny.

Deep down I hope there's a shortage and the decision will be out of my hands until next year ... otherwise I'll be tempted to buy a box I don't really need.

I can't possibly call it at this stage.

I’ll get a PS5 if I can, although I won’t be trying too hard. If I can’t get one this year then so be it, I’ll happily wait.
