Owning a Nintendo Switch + Switch Lite

Right, I'm into visual novels big time, and I own every VN worth playing on the Switch. Thing is, I don't enjoy the wide Switch screen for these types of games, nor do I find the Joy-Cons (they suck) or the Split Pad Pro (makes the Switch even wider, works well with normal games though) comfortable with VNs. I loved playing these games on the Vita, so I figured I'd just get a Switch Lite for VNs, dungeon RPGs and ports of older games like Star Ocean: First Departure R and moon. I want to make the Lite into a 100% Vita successor in other words.

I'm quite confused about the account management stuff for owners of both the original Switch and the Switch Lite, even after reading various overly complicated guides. What I'm wondering about is this:

I have one account for my Switch, on which I've purchased games like Star Ocean: First Departure R, moon, Undertale, etc. I now want to make them, in effect, "Lite only" games. Do I still need to mess about with the primary/secondary stuff? I intend to play them on my Switch lite, and on my Switch Lite only. Will I be able to simply log on to my account on my Switch Lite and download the specific games I want to play on my Lite only? I'd rather not buy these games again, but I will if I have to endure any type of hassle with regards to this.

Have you already bought the Lite? Personally I'd grab a Pro Controller, check third party options or endure it as I find there's very little difference between the two models. The Lite isn't really all that smaller and has exactly the same quality of controls as the Joycons with the added issue that when they knacker your whole system's compromised.

I already have the Pro Controller for my regular Switch (which I'm keeping), but playing VNs and dungeon JRPGs on a 55" isn’t my thing. Need the PS Vita experience.

I'm basically going to turn my Lite into a Vita and treat the regular Switch and the Lite as two different systems. If someone released a handheld with Switch's "Vita-ish" library I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm basically splitting Switch's library in half; one is with the "normal" games which play great on a docked Switch (and to a degree in handheld mode), and one with the "Vita-ish" games which I'll play exclusively on the Lite. I really like the docked/handheld feature but it hasn't replaced the Vita/3DS feeling for me.

I've owned a Lite before and I found the face buttons to be more comfortable. It's also not just about screen size, but the size/ergonomics of the system itself. Dungeon JRPGs are probably fine on the regular Switch in handheld mode, but visual novels are a no go. The Lite is much more comfortable in longer game sessions.

You're right about the drifting issue though, but I'll try my luck.

If you are intending to play all of your downloaded tiles on your switch lite then the easiest method would be to just do a system transfer to the lite as it will move over everything including your purchase licenses so you can redownload them all from the eshop. You'll keep your saves & everything else you will lose nothing at all as it moves everything over. If you bought eshop stuff from several regions you'll need to transfer the profiles you bought them under for example i have a uk & a japanese profile & i bought stuff from the eshop using both of them so i had to move both profiles over to my new switch to allow me access to everything i had downloaded.

From that guide i'm guessing if you did a full system transfer to your new switch lite that would make that one the primary console then you could make you old switch the secondary console but you would have to always be connected to the net if you wanted to ever play your download titles on it. Although from the sound of it you are only ever intending to play your download stuff on the switch lite so a simple system transfer might be enough. You may lose access to your saves on your old switch though for certain games though as those will be moved when you do the transfer.
