Super Mario 64 guidebook scans hit with takedown notice • Eurogamer.net
Nintendo slams the banhammer down hard on that most evil of foes - people scanning out of print guide books for a 27 year old game!

To be fair, think of all the lost sales from time travellers going back to 1995 to pick up the guide.

Of course they did. At this point they must have more lawyers than game developers to keep up with stuff like this.

The hilarious thing about it is that NoA have actioned this C&D when they had absolutely nothing to do with the Japanese SM64 player guide in the first place.

It was NCL who licensed permission to a Japanese publisher to make the guide.

            Peak Nintendo behaviour.

I wish that Nintendo would stop with their tiresome constant lawyering up over this sort of stuff.

I wish that intellectual property rights and stuff weren't disregarded so easily.

They'll continue to be when Nintendo continue to insist on pulling blatant and unnecessary d1ck moves like this, that's for sure.

                      I think you mean "while".
Yes, Nintendo doing stuff like that is a dick move, but isn't distributing copyrighted material too?

                        Please stop defending them.

The book has LONG been out-of-print. It is as old as SM64.

Nintendo of America literally had nothing to do with the creation of it. It was down to NCL who licensed to a third-party to originally publish it.

Nintendo are not losing money or suffering IP damage on a book that was never officially translated from Japanese and is no longer made, regardless of PDF rescans being made to view. They're just not.

They won't be seeing a penny of money from owners of the actual book who now have free license to put it up on Flea-Bay for hundreds of pounds/dollars. Will they do anything to stop that? Of course they won't!

Purely sh1thouse moves like this won't suddenly enforce IP law on Nintendo properties in the way you naïvely seem to think it will. This won't stop people pirating Nintendo products - if anything, people will now double-down. If Nintendo were truly concerned about all of that, they wouldn't be picking small and cheap fights like this to win.
