There's a new twist in the long-running saga of Nintendo's Switch eShop cancellation policy - which has for years been …

Nintendo needs a good slap over this whole thing. The lack of a proper refund policy on the eShop is really anti-consumer and needs to be stopped, irrespective of how they feel about it.

People who pre-order digital software need a slap, too. Why is this even a thing to begin with? In case they run out of kilobits and stuff at launch?

Cheers Dave, I'll have mine on the arse please.

              I've preordered two digital games:

              Shenmue I & II on PS4
              Mojipittan on Switch

Both were downloaded in advance and unlocked at midnight so I could play straight away(although I was asleep by then!).

I get your point about storage, but there's still a benefit for the publishers in that they can guess the popularity of a digital game before it launches. For the users, there are usually bonuses like DLC or special costumes to show off how many slaps theydeserve.

I've pre-ordered lots on Xbox but only because there was a discount incentive and the ability to pre-load and play instantly. The biggest factor there though is you've a 14 day no quibble returns policy... I've returned Star Wars Battlefront 2 the day it released just by chatting to MS support and it's an instant refund.

Nintendo are so behind the curve on services it's ridiculous.

Indeed. I’d love to know how many digital pre-order bonuses they’ve handed out thus far.

As for the statistics, they’re probably using these analytics to weigh up how quickly they can shift to an entirely digital platform. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if we see one more Switch revision (maybe an OLED Lite) that doesn’t have a card slot.

I preordered the Destiny 30th anniversary stuff last night as you get a few bits for preordering, it comes out today at 4, dose that still count?

Digital rubbish you don’t even know you’ve got or will ever use, what an incentive.

I sometimes preorder digital games since they download while I'm doing something else. My Switch is always docked when not in use so if I preorder a digital game, it automatically downloads it while I'm asleep/at work so it's ready to go. I never usually leave my PS5 on standby but if I preorder a digital game on it, I pop the power on partway through the day and the download automatically starts and the console puts itself into rest mode so it's ready to go when I sit down after dinner in the evening.

Preorder digital games for any reason than preloading and automatic installs on the day of release seems like nonsense though.

Actually, from a dev's POV, digital preorder numbers help determine your featuring on storefronts on day of release. So I want people to preorder digital games but only because platform holder storefronts have an algorithm that must be combatted at all times to try and guarantee success.

ended up getting dungeon munchies as it looked weird as hell, it's a bit janky around the edges graphically but it's a fun one. I like how you cook to give yourself extra abilities like a double jump ect, found a hidden area in part of the dungeon with what they suspiciously call happy leaves that look a lot like weed and you craft rolls from it lol. I picked up chicory man i hope at some point this gets a physical release. I love the artstyle and game mechanics really charming game so far, spent way too long filling everything in like a colouring book.
