I'm Sorry, I Just Can't Even Right Now - Gaming Edition

Nice and simple thread this time. There are any number of popular trending games but new and old out there in the wide world. It may be a single game, a franchise, a method of play etc but huge fanbases await where a developer strikes gold with an idea.

This success will also draw people who were previously not paying attention, some finding joy in what they find and others... just not.

What successful gaming experiences or titles have to looked into or tried and decided that you just can't understand the appeal of or get into?

I couldn't get into Last of Us. I really tried. I couldn't really care about the story. The gameplay is like... well the mechanics/formula seem to be like a Sony AAA mechanic now which feels boring to me. Great visuals though. Sorry, I know. It's loved by many peeps. I much prefer the story to be nearly non-existent where my imagination fills in stuff or it's so wild that I dont even get it, but that's fine...as long as im not in cutscene land too long.

I don't like football, so the last footy game I liked was ISS Pro with the smiley faces to let you know Vinny Janes was happy to play.

However, I know a lot of people love the beautiful (video) game, so I'm not saying it's rubbish, just that it's not for me.

I can't play the Uncharted games. I've tried.

I don't think they're mechanically bad. Just there's something about the gameplay and narrative I can't get on board with.

I hate how in the cutscenes, Nate is this happy-go-lucky Indiana Jones-type character, but he's also a mass-murderer, gunning down humanoid enemies by the dozen while he hunts for treasure. There's a dissonance there that rips me right out of the experience.

Yep. And when it comes to games, yeah, there are a bunch of popular games that either haven't clicked for me or I haven't even been interested enough to try and that's okay.

I really struggle with almost all of the big hit games. I'm totally stuck in the past, the only big games I really play are the Yakuza/Judgment ones and Fallout/Elder Scrolls.

Examples of series I tried but failed to like are:

            Metal Gear Solid
            God of War
            Dark Souls
            The Last of Us
            Uncharted
            Halo

My attention wavers so badly if I'm not totally hooked into a game. I've got so many play and so little time to play them.

I just can’t get into the Lego games… Also, try as I might, I just can get back into the Yakuza style games no more… I’ve completed 1 and 2 and I just get too distracted by side quests that it just feels like a massive chore to play though it’s many sequels now…

I really want to get engrossed in the world created in the Yakuza games, but they are just too long winded…

                Fortnite FFS

                Going back a bit:

Mass Effect. By rights I should be all over this and periodically I have another go. Someone suggested once that I skip 1 and just play 2. Maybe that's what I'll do.

Assassin's Creed. Played 1 til it crashed (about 30 minutes) and Black Flag (because I had a launch PS4 and there was nothing else on it) and after a few hours I asked myself what I was doing with my life

Any and all Real-Time Strategy games. Turn based are fine but the idea of clicking all over the place at high speed, nope.

In case you do go back to this - I would recommend not skipping 1 if you're playing the modern versions, as only the Xbox 360 original is technically the original - all the subsequent versions are a reimplementation of the first game in Mass Effect 2's engine.

The original game is very janky, but worth it for the plot and the adventure you go on. I usually recommend people play it on Easy as Soldier (the easiest class) - because the combat just isn't good enough. Like when it's difficult, it's not challenging, it's just crap.

Super Smash Bros and most, if not all battle royale games.

I think the industry would be better if Battle Royale didn't exist.

Yeah I'm with this. Don't get it. I went on Fortnite a few times and it just seemed like a dumb game. Most of these big online community games I avoid.

Got a few here for me but the major ones are Zelda titles & J-RPGs

I just can't get into them in anyway & that's despite trying them on a multitude of different consoles & franchises just nothing clicks
Hate the grinding involved with RPG's just always put me off & find it hard to get into the stories for them

                            "Soulsborne" games.

                            Rogue-like games.

                            Driving sims.

                            JRPGs.

                              Animal Crossing.

Sorry, I just don't understand or get it. F-Zero, Punch-Out!!, Excitebike, Starfox, Wave Race, 1080°...all these top-tier Nintendo IPs can't get a resurrection but a highly shoddy Sims with Animals concept gets a pass?? Abysmal.

Monster Hunter. God knows I have tried to rock with this on WiiU and 3DS. Just doesn't click with me whatsoever though. Was even going to go in on the latest installment on Switch. Played the demo. No feeling whatsoever.
