I've never had any issues with any stock Xbox controller across every generation. I guess I'm just not as heavy handed as some players.. I dunno, either that or I'm seriously lucky.

The Elite 2 controllers seem to have major issues with the sticks. Even the original gen 1 Elite controller was better. I had one of those got a while until my young daughter decided it was fun to take the magnetic sticks off and put them in her mouth.

In other news they showed off 4p co-op in Halo Infinite late night. It's as good as you would expect and looks crazy with four in the mix.

Appreciate its way too late in the day for some but it's good to see it's finally (almost) here.

Yep, zero issues with either Xbox or Sony controllers myself. The Elite though, the really embarrassing thing is the Elite 2 was supposed to address the issues of the Elite 1. Really, if it's that bad then MS should withdraw it from sale. They should probably correct it with an Elite 3 but at this point the trust level on them is probably so low they should step away from pro controllers altogether.

I've never had any problems with mine. Both very solid and the V2 feels more robust than the original.

What i've found is that playing any game where you have to click the stick in to run stresses the analogue stick module, i played a lot of destiny which has this system and my son played a lot of Fortnite which also uses this system and both of us ended up with controllers that had click to run issues and stick drift problems. Thankfully if their in warranty you can swap them or if their older than 12 months you can sling it on Ebay as loads of people buy them to fix.

Does the option to swap sticks and buttons out contribute to the shonkiness?

To me it always felt like it would be better if the Elite was designed to be a premium single design rather than a metal parts jack of all trades

Sssh don't jinx it ... I never had any issues with the V1 model either but I only owned it for about 6 months.

their not designed to be swapped out the analogue stick modules are soldered on the circuit boards, so you need a de-soldering gun to remove or a rework station which are not cheap

So they're just not very robust then? So odd considering at launch MS made a point of stressing how tested the parts were

They all use very similar internal modules, made by Alps with slight variations depending on the pad, if you open any modern controller you will find an alps analogue stick module. i cant find it now but their was a news story related to the components they where using in modern controllers, someone did some digging and found that the alps module was rated for around 100 thousand movements, this equated to two hours of use per day for a year before they expected the part to fail.

That's a terrible lifespan for a system aiming for a 7-10yr lifespan. I'm impressed now they last as much as they do

As I say, I haven't had any issue at all, but maybe I've just been lucky. One thing is for sure though- the battery life on the XBox pads, Elite and vanilla, is the best by mile. The V2 Elite just keeps on going and can retain charge for long idle periods.

Eeerrr what?? non elite xbox pads take double AA battery's its like saying my car has the best wheels it all depends on what brand you go for.

i never fork out for Duarcells for my xbox, i always use JCB branded batteries from Home Bargains you get like a million of them for 2 quid, JCB make diggers really well so i reckon they must make ace battery's unlike Duracell who only make one thing!!! bloody amateurs.

My car does have the best wheels though.

The WiiU pro controller lasts up to 80 hours. The Switch one ‘only’ 40.

That said I prefer AAs as you know they’ll always be around. I never have to worry about degradation within a Wavebird battery, for instance.

I genuinely want the issues sorting with the Elites because Xbox pads pair with the PC perfectly in more ways than just one. I don’t mind buying the latest standard controller every seven/eight years or so, but a viable premium option could be nice. I’d like to see something that can resist ending up all shiny and particularly grotty in otherwise hard to reach places. If it could be stripped down and restored to perfection that’d be amazing.

Poundland batteries would still give a longer playtime than the PS4 controller would. PS5 was an improvement but still poor compared to the Xbox with decent rechargable AAs.
The Elite series 2 battery life is something else though. I can usually go 2-3 weeks before needing to charge it.

I can't say I've had any issues with the sticks on my elite, I love the taller analogue stick option you can swap out for, I use that on the right stick. Three of my mates have had issues with the bumpers going after a few months.
