    Battlefield VII

DICE learned "valuable lessons" from Battlefield 2042 release • Eurogamer.net
The next Battlefield game has been confirmed to have entered development with plans to use 2042 as the basis for it now scrapped. The devs have stated that valuable lessons have been learnt from 2042 and there are rumours it will be steering to a modern day/near future setting with specialist roles tied more closely to classes.

    Jokers.

Valuable lessons? People are done with buying our unfinished games.

Back to the drawing board, lads!

Screw that for a laff. No way I am buying another BF game unless it's been 110% verified as not a broken game scam.

Hey Dice, can you just, like, not?

Didn't they say the exact same thing with the last two?

All they had to do is re release BFBC2 in the new engine and instead they've gone too big in scale and concept and released a broken mess every time.

It's a live earning call, with a CEO speaking to investors using investor terminology - I think people are reading waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much into terminology here. But I think I'm on a losing streak expecting people to use a bit of sense at this point.

Hard not to given the direction of the franchise, people want a full fledged revival of fortunes but I'd happily take a Battlefield 1944 at this point

It's going to be the same stuff we've already seen with BF2042 - it had some issues issues at launch, today it's a very good game indeed.

The point I was making is Wilson is going to use different language depending on the audience he's speaking to. And he's not speaking to a bunch of gamers on an earnings call, so people getting bent out of shape on a game they've not seen, not played and know little to nothing about because of a word is really rather very silly indeed.

Fair enough, though if they launch a BF2042 that's decent at launch I still suspect it will fail. The core of the direction has been off point since BF1.

2042 is the first BF I haven't bought since I started playing way back with Bad Company. The beta was just terrible, really really terrible.

I got it for free with PS+ (I think it was around season 3 or 4?) and though I have played a gazillion hours and it is certainly way better than it was, I wouldn't say it is a great Battlefield game. Yes I have fun more often than not but it is far from the experience of even V for me.

However how the team can go from designing great fun maps like the last couple and then map the new truly awful Stadium one is beyond me.

It doesn't give me much confidence at all.

Some of the design decisions really are baffling. Example the other night I try to get into a game, loads me into an empty server like 10 times in a row, with the super slow load times, this is like 10 mins wasted. How this friction got past any normal UX check is beyond comprehension. In fact how much of this game got past even user testing is baffling.

Please DICE - give me the option to browse servers, see tick rates and choose my maps It's not f*cking hard you've done it for the last million years.

Also the balancing is still all over the place, you have characters that can essentially play as a sniper heal themselves and drop ammo. Come on.

Anyway I'll not lie, despite all of the above, I will be interested in what they show, but unless the Beta is great it will again be no bueno from me (in terms of me giving DICE my hard earned).

But as they captured me with the freebie and I have "engaged" in the game I suppose I am part of the problem

I hope the next Battlefield game is one from way previous. Battlefield Bad Co. 2 was so good. Best maps, not too stupidly vast, cool modes, and an endlessly surprising amount of real game-changing environmental destruction. Most fun I've ever had in a competitive MP shooter. Re-release that with the Vietnam DLC and I'd be happy.

Only thing I didn't like about BF2042 was the silly specialists, I quite like the setting itself and it's been a decent experience for some time now - be happy to play another BF set in current times though (and three Apaches in the distance there), so long as there are no specialists.

I see people are moaning about battle passes again in the comments in that article - you didn't need to buy a single battle pass in that game at all, the only thing it gave you over the free tier weapons/vehicles was cosmetics (ok, and BF Coins - if you completed a whole battle pass it was enough coins earnt to get the next one gratis), but it allowed for the player base not to be split on map DLC - they need to do the same this time.
