I imagine they cost an absolute fortune to put together properly and take so much preparation compared with just doing their own Direct-style videos. And as you say, the big names can draw their own audience in without it. The small publishers can't but it looks like the show can't exist on the small ones.

I don't see a time when the big names would want to go back to an E3 type event. It's like it got too big and too noisy.

The individual platform holders do this anyway though? And anyone can upload a vid of their game at any time?

I just can’t see it coming back especially as everyone will be saving all that money by not doing the show but still reaching the same audience online.

yes anyone can upload a video, but if you had a weekend event with loads of new info coming out and a load of new trailers and some keynotes it creates a buzz and makes it a focus point to gain large audience and a large amount of media attention.

That's true, as long as this is the case.

It's a bit of a tautology. E3 won't come back until there's a reason for it to come back; but that doesn't mean it won't ever come back.

E3 used to be absolutely brilliant on Forums. I still remember the feeling everyone had (in text form) when Twilight Princess was revealed. Then there's the famous Giant Enemy Crab moment (no way would that be in a polished video) and ubisoft cringe. Also the internet exploding with the double Shenmue 3 and FF7 remake.

It was over when Reggie stopped doing it.
