It's a tedious survival game that hasn't worked out how to get up small steps in the environment, won't let you craft stuff when your bench is next to a crate with materials in (you have to hold it in your pockets), have no idea how to actually eat things you've cooked, has a convoluted UI, and overall is just a poor to, at best, average experience.

There are technical issues such as it doesn't seem to work with the Bluetooth Xbox pads (had to plug on in with wires - imagine that), it has no exclusive fullscreen mode, so you're stuck at desktop resolution (and it was telling me I was running the game at 640x380px) and it has no ability to quit the game from the menus (you have to alt-f4).

This isn't really ready for early access - I was not impressed.

Thanks for the quick review. It's not my type of game anyway but I am surprised it's so popular... it's hit 800,000 concurrent players on Steam in 2 days.

They're likely showcasing a difficult future for studios and seem unlikely to be sued but drama has erupted as Palworld looks very likely to have just flung Pokemon through an AI generator for its creature designs

It's now topped 1m concurrent users making it number 1 on Steam in popularity and sales. I'd be interested to see how many players are on game pass as it seems the vast amount are on PC but certainly this is a surprise console win for Xbox in the short term.

I'll file it under the same category as Fortnite, hugely popular games I'll never understand.

Right looks like the majority are on Steam as PC has dedicated servers for 32 players and there's currently no cross play while the game is in preview. I imagine given the success that Xbox would want that sorted real quick.!
The developer of the “Pokémon With Guns” survival game says it’s negotiating to bring bigger multiplayer numbers to Xbox

I can't seem them bothering, i'm 100% sure the game will be a flash in the pan, severely boring and annoying grinding around base building factory stuff will kill the game for the majority attracted by big streamers taking advertising deals and the chinese knockoff pokemon with guns, who will probably get a letter from the Big N shorty. Basically it's no Arc, and you only need to look at the dev's previous (and still early access) Craftopia to see slow updates and eventual abandonment.

It would appear that the PC version is a much later build than what is running on Xbox.

I don't know how much legs the game has got long term and I'm definitely not interested myself but you've got to give them some credit it's blowing up on Steam so it's really up to them to support it and grow what they've started.

They have a quality character creation - mine came with free clipping arm pockets

I don't see how this is getting such positive attention given how low-quality it is - there are at least a dozen better survival games on PC.

Pokemon with guns it’s getting publicity as it’s an easy thing to write story’s about. it’s also the first time we’ve seen pokemon in a decently rendered world. Might be getting a bit too big for nintendo's lawyers especially if it’s using Actual pokemon designs to create its designs via AI.

Nintendo won't be taking Pocket Pair to court; whilst there may be some similarities there's no infringement here to litigate against, no matter how hard Pokémon fanboys cry and drink the cool-aid, and there's not going to be any confusion mistaking it for a Pokémon game.

Kids. The same reason why all crap is ranked highly. Just look at the biggest You Tubers. Idiots with no talent that appeal to kids. Same thing with games.

Yet more Ai theft that's just being normalised instead of stomped on, exactly what slimy people like that dev want.

I don't think there is any evidence of them actually using AI is there? There's been some suggestion but nothing concrete and the game has apparently been in development for a few years so I don't think it all lines up as much as people are saying.

As for the differences between the Steam and Xbox builds the developer has said this to windows central:

What more proof do you need?

No. There isn't, other than Twitter warriors claiming it is. Is it derivative? Yes, absolutely, but I guarantee you'll find just as many similarities in Coromon, Exomon, Digimon or any of the other 'mons if you go and look for them.

90% of games released are derivative*

(* figure might only be 99% accurate).
