Yep, and one of the victories that Game Pass was trumpeted for since its launch is revenue. It massively scaled up their revenue during the dire XBO days and shifted their focus, leading to its prioritisation. Taking on companies like Activision have absolutely ballooned their revenue rates. The division is doing huge numbers but when you lay out where the flood of money is coming and going there's a huge millstone dragging them down throughout and that's the hardware. I would imagine that taking on and now ringfencing Call of Duty away from Game Pass goes a long way to mitigating their need for Game Pass entirely which down the line will just mean better sales figures for their expensive tentpoles too.

What is crazy is the misinformation... that "Microsoft Game Pass" stuff was confirmed as an error from Gamestop but still got reported all over the place like it was some indication of intent.
Waiting till next week for actual direct confirmation of plans seems like an error already as the media (and social media) seems content with spinning whatever new rumour gets dreamt up.
Whatever this actually turns out to be officially the discourse is pathetic at the moment.

It's been really notable in the last day or so that we're well past of getting reliable info. Things that are coming up now feel like people spouting clickbait to fill the void which is bad but also continues to come back on MS as well because there really shouldn't be that radio silence. If they aren't beginning a transition to third party it really should be very easy to just say that the current speculation around Xbox is false and they will provide updates in due course, the lack of any form of denial is deafening and fuelling the whirlwind which is why Xbox Series S/X is dead, no matter what they do the brand damage is cementing no recovery in fortunes for it this gen at bare minimum.

So we've officially reached the crazy story stage of this cycle, Not seen the "Microsoft Game Pass" stuff, so that's news to me
If you look back to when all these rumours started their was talk of HI-Fi rush coming to the Nintendo Switch that kind of made sense, ORI and the blind Forrest had already been ported so it wasn't unprecedented for games that fit to come to the switch.
The Sea of Thieves on PlayStation rumours followed and kind of made sense too, an older big multiplayer game like that still doing well could find a whole new audience on a new console.
Where it all blew up was with the Starfield stuff they could have shut this down and obviously are planning a big showy announcement next week or would have shut it down already, that they aren't willing to move this news up is a bit silly and it's feeding the news cycle as people want to know more now so are latching on to rumours that are getting pushed out without decent sources. It's all clicks and advertising revenue, so the rumour sites win.Last edited by Lebowski; 08-02-2024, 12:15.

My mate Gavin from the pub says they're deleting all the Games With Gold from your hard drive and making you rebuy them and if you own the physical game, the firmware upgrade will automatically eject the disc until you rebuy the digital version!
If you hold the disc in, Bill Gates will come to your house and smash the disc!

Side note - For the first time in a very long time I browsed through the PC Game Pass library. It's still smaller than the Xbox one but I'd missed that it seems to have at least become better at offering like-for-like on more third party additions. Turns out I won't need to buy Ishin and solely need to pick up the RDR remaster at some point so won't be saying goodbye to anything on Series X
