    Xbox Series S/X2: Thread 01

So, we now know that Microsoft is making a very realistic target of launching the next-generation of Xbox consoles in 2028. Before anything else this cements the evolution of console generations into being eight years in length with software support stretching up to around twelve years once you factor in how cross generation titles have developed.

Microsofts information has revealed that the company plans to continue to offer multiple versions of its consoles however the early leaked target specs for the Xbox Series S/X2 suggest the company is aiming to push things further into the domain of online only once more.

Microsoft is potentially eyeing a shift to ARM with a greater focus on utilising the console relying on cloud servers.

Whilst an increased emphasis on consoles and cloud gaming holding hands to widen the Xbox ecosystem and to allow players to access their games on more devices will ring as old news to many who have heard these things from Microsoft before, it is the intention to pair Cloud services to how games run that will bring back memed memories of the 'Power of the Cloud' whilst players also look at how we're rattling toward 2024 and by 2028 Microsoft hopes to deliver this future - a thought they may be having whilst waiting for the queue to clear as they cloud access Forza Horizon 5 before dealing with the fuzzy resolution and input delay.

Well I would be very surprised if this didn't result in a major lawsuit against the FTC...

Pretty incredible what they've just made public for all Xbox competitors...

It's all a bit boring and predictable:

      Mid-gen refresh - shock!
Moving to all digital distribution - horror!
Controller with better haptics - quelle surprise!!
New console in the works - hold the front page!!!

What is surprising is they’re considering a switch to ARM based CPUs. Could really increase the performance to efficiency ratio but would make BC much harder.

And yet system selling games?, silence and tumbleweeds.

Shares in physical media companies probably just took a hit

I notice mention of a handheld and dedicated phone controllers as well.

I think this is the most worrying thing for me as-is this whole hybrid power utilising the cloud ...

Maybe 2028 ARM and Cloud make this viable but I would much rather they concentrate on local power for a console and only use this sort of stuff for a cutdown handheld model etc...

As for all digital, well to support physical media they need only release a disc drive add-on like Sony is doing right now. I see this as a simple way to guess the market conditions without necessarily ditching the past entirely.

I agreed with MS's anti-handheld stance in the past. If they'd have made one I think they'd have been slaughtered.
But looking at the Deck and MS's plans as well as the Switch - It could work really, really well for them to produce a handheld Xbox now.

Personally I think they should scrap xbox as its own platform and go consolised PC with xbox tier concrete settings baked into games for their "under the tv" and handheld systems

Speculated to be called Xbox Prime and to launch alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

I could imagine that being true as everything in that simple sentence reeks of final nail in a coffin
