<Pedant>
Just read through the PSX feature, and the testing performed by Edge appears to be very poor, for example they state that they where unable to read most of the options for the box (being in Japanese), let they obviously paid a lot of cash to import the box, wouldn't it have been sensible to employ the services of a translator?
They also state its missing features like auto play for music cds, yet did not state that they where unable to see if their was an option in the menu for turning this on (in fact they broke the DVD Playback functionality)
Also they made very little of the fact that the network settings where in the OS, yet the network adapter is not to be used according to Edge, yet they fail to test if online game do work (which I believe they do)
Finally, they listed the connections on the back of the box, failed to describe the satalite connections in a meaningful manner (who know what BS IF is?), and seem to have missed the VGA style output, which is for component/RGB output, in their description of output modes. I would go so far as to say that they just copied from the manual the list of connections rather than working out what they are for.

Obviously I am being overly picky, but if you are going to take the trouble to import a very expensive piece of hardware, put it on your front cover, and devote 8 pages to it, at least spend some time using it.

I am so glad they see fit to send me this monstrosity again.OPS2 magazine is almost a cliche of what to expect in a bad naughties video game mag. In the last issue they called ICO "limp-wristed."
I'd rather read Mr Dreamcast.

Looking at the Mag, the editor is down as Tony Mott.
What does everyone think about the writting?
I thought the first article on christmas sales was very rambling and repetitive. There's also 2 pages (but very little text) given over to a article about amazon star ratings on games - could be an interesting subject but the article seems like a filler.
I did enjoy the PSX piece (as I hadn't read about it before) - but I agree with the critisisms mentioned earlier.
Also, CGI Tits in Out There! What's the point? Where's the irony?
Not my favourite edition to be honest.

I thought it was a pretty good issue actually. And I enjoyed the large amount of concept art in the Hyper Street Fighter II feature. The only minor (pithy) complaint I have were the few grammatical mistakes littered around the news section of the magazine.
I will get around to typing out further impressions later. When I can be arsed to make my fingers move across the keyboard that bit more.

i thought it is apretty good edition. The Amazon bit is a light hearted look at something a bit dofferent alon the lines of the pub games type bit, makes you think/laugh which is good! I guess some of the stuff was written before Mr Mott took over and it may take another month or two before they get full control over what is written.

I think it was much better than last months edition(which I thought was wierd and below par) but it doesn't seem to have changed much, does it?
The Deus Ex review was spot on, I totally agree with it having finished the game but I find Edge reviews really hard to stomach in general. I don't know why, but their reviews section usually puts me off buying even the games which get good reviews.

Dear Mr. Mott and Team,
I picked up a copy of EDGE today in the shop. Because I'm too lazy to get a sub.
Thank you for such a wonderful review section. A brilliant job. I found it most unusual to find in an EDGE review critical analysis of core gameplay elements as oppossed to some critique about some obtuse style no one gives too hoots about. I also enjoyed the distinct lack of pretentious replies in the letters section, and what appeared to be, dare I say it? The well judged humour found in GameCentral slipping in from place to place.
Keep up the good work. Very impressive.
Regard,
Crispin G

Seriously, great reviews, from what I've read so far.

Seriously though, it was a decent issue, certainly better than the last, which was shockingly poor.
I can see where they're going with this more inclusive direction, and with Mott at the helm, I can see this happening without Edge losing its identity. I think it'll take a couple of issues before all the rough edges are finally smoothed off though.
Either way, higher ups have definitely had a little word and told them to "big up the mainstream" - that much is obvious...

Yes, but please, no more ads for other Future Mags, eh, Future?
OXM Uk, just about. But the PS2 mag, with the words "Killa Cheats" in the advert.
Hulk...must...smash. EDGE readers are not usually townies.
And don't get me started on what were they thinking advertising NGC.
But yeah, much better. If they keep up the good work I can see myself enjoying a lot more of the mag.
