I often feel the urge to teach people the error of their ****-franchise-buying ways, but never end up doing so for fear of being rebuked, or just plain looking a twat.

    A real closet philanthropist, me..

The only time i've ever intervened was in Ealings (then) Electronics boutique. Some kid and mother were trying to decide which console to buy and the clerk there was blatantly trying to take them for a ride. They were asking about the different consoles, but the clerk was telling them whatever they wanted to here to make them buy a PS2 then and there.
      Example
Kid "I really like games like Doom, what would you say is the best?"

Clerk "Well there's the most choice for the PS2, there's some really great games like Red Faction were you can actually blow holes into walls"

Kid "But my mate says Halo is the best and that's only on xbox"

Clerk "Yes, but that game will be on PS2 within 6 months"

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. There were about 2 or 3 instances were the guy was blatantly lying on some of the things that were important to what the kid was after, so after a couple of minutes I had to step in and tell the truth despite the fact that I felt a bit of a pretentious know-it-all.

As a normal course of events I wouldn't intervene at all, but I felt that I had to stand in, cos that guy was just trying to make a sale with dodgy business practices.

I stood by and watched my local GameStation give a guy ?110 trade in for a Sega Saturn with:

        Shining Force 3
        Burning Rangers
        Shining the Holy Arc
        Sonic Jam
        Sonic R
        Baku Baku
        NiGHTS
        about 10 other titles

an analogue pad and some other Extras

I so wanted to yell out he was being totally ripped off (poor bast) but he acctually took the offer and bought a couple of PS2 games.

The shop now wants ?50 for Burning Rangers (no chance) ?60 for Shining Force 3 ?45 for Shining the Holy Arc ?20 for Sonic Jam and ?18 for Sonic R. I really hope he hasn't seen.

I was worried I'd get kicked out tho when I was about to buy Symphony of the Night Limited Edition for ?20.

Regarding **** games, maybe you should just let people make their own mistakes, I'm sure intervening would merely piss them off as u might come across as a big headed "I know better" sort of person.
