Very few of the up and coming games excite me.
Those that do, do so to such a little extent as to make worth mentioning.

    What I want in 2004?

Sprites to return as the dominant form of gaming expression.

oh, and chibi-robo for GC and Rent a hero no.1 the English release on xbox.

Otherwise, every game on my want list is pre-2004

    EDIT:
Just had a good look through the things people listed, damn, how many of those are sequels? 80%?
    bleurgh!

Nowt wrong with Sequels. Otherwise we would have stopped at Pokemon Red/Blue.

And take it from this master. Gold is better than Red. Fact. (hehehe, it is Pokemon so I have special dispensation to be an arrogant bastard) And so far, after 30 hours of playing Ruby is better than Gold. Because I haven't noticed what EDGE were saying about Pokemon SWAT teams. Well, in Gold there were some real special forces pokemon. Here, it is much more balanced.

But much work remains. Need to restart the game and not choose Torchic. I will be the master of Ruby, as once I was with Gold.

And 30 hours isn't anywhere near long enough to review a Pokemon game. After about 100 hours you can discuss it. So much work remains before I can post impressions.

And we'd still be on the original Mario Bros.
And we'd still be on Metroid. Super Metroid was a sequel.

Back then they called everything Super, rather than 2. Heheheh.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They did with Worms 3D and boy was that soooo a bad idea.

And Full Spectrum Warrior, Breakdown and Advent Rising are all original ideas. As is Red Ninja (that is the wee girl with a deadly wire, right?)

Not being arrogant, but the boards have gone down in quality recently. In fact I can track the problem all the way back to 17th October 2003.

            Hang on... nooooooooo!

I don't like using the word, but only a fool would count Nintendo out just now. Remember, it targeted us as kids, and we still love it at 19, 25, 30, 40, 60. Whatever. Once Nintendo sinks it's claws of gaming goodness into it, you don't want to let go in a hurry.

so pushing blocks in zelda and jumping on heads in mairo is'nt generic. Nintendo are the ones with no originality now. Face the facts people there demise is now inevitable.

I really wouldn't bother. Pointless arguing with someone who doesn't understand that we like Nintendo games because they are responsible for some truly amazing innovations.

I'd hate to see such an optimistic topic locked. So let us just ignore him, eh?

Look at it this way. Nintendo, or one form or another, was responsible for me writing the line "Mood-y-mon, Gotta get a life." They deserve all they get.

                    Halo 2
                    Half Life 2
Kingdom Hearts 2 (yes, I know)
                    Nico
                    Fable
And maybe Totally Games will do a TIE Fighter sequel. I can but dream...

look im sorry if i have offended anybody, it was not my intention. I do actually happen to believe that in Mario 64, they created the best game that ever has been, and ever will be. Also, countless other games that they created on their past consoles still stand out as monumental gaming achievements. im not saying there dead now, but with the juggernaught that is the PSP they will lose there main source of revenue and eventually die (or be aquired). Sorry buts its just my opinion. and sorry for going of topic.

When Nintendo can sell 8 million units of software in Japan alone in 2003 (2.5 million more than 2nd placed Square Enix) it makes these "Nintendo are going close" comments some of you people come out with look incredibly ignorant.

for once im actually enjoying and thinking more about the stuff out now than anything in the future.. dunno if thats because of the breadth and quality of the current titles or the empty sequel filled licence based future :S

                            New games I want?
                            Dunno really.

Pikmin 2 will be very special I think. More of the same magic but bigger and better. The new Polemon Stadium game should be nice. Fable too.

I have to disagree with you. Sequels on the whole are not good. I don't mean in terms of quality. Sequels are often better than the game previously, like you said, the Pokemon series has gone from strength and from Red-Ruby has become much more accomplished and polished.

I've really enjoyed the Pokemon series, as you know, and will run out to buy the next game on release day. But the Pokemon series hasn't really moved forward very much sinse the first one. Yeah, you've got breeding which adds a new dimension, and contests, the graphics are great now and extra peripheral things which are always good, but they've not taken the game much further then the first one.

When we start to get yearly updates like Fifa, the Sims and many others are better every year, no question, but it leads to lazyness and stagnation as people go with games they are familiar with and know will be good. But really fail to push games and the industry any further.

In conclusion I believe sequels are good, in terms of quality, but bad for the industry as a whole as new interesting titles are ignored.

PS. Dude, are you seriously only 30 hours into Ruby. You lazy pokemon loser. Get back to work, and come and talk to me when you get to atleast 90 hours! 8)

Have you got your Pokemon Gold Guide still. I May be interested to go back and play that game actually, and if you have it I'd really appreciate it if I could borrow it for a little. Are you interested in Half-Life like I offered in the other thread?

Great post, well written. About the Pokemon play time, I know, it is terrible isn't it?

I usually unvest 140 hours into each one, but since I normally have purchased the breeding guide by the 30th or 40th hour, it is then I begin applying the book's theory to what I know to be true. So, I am reluctant to go forward without a book. I don't have enough time nowadays to raise something as risk taking as a Poliwrath with Fissure AND mind - reader (don't ask, it meant missing out on Hydro pump).

That little experiment, sort of worked, and sort of not. As although no one knew it was possible (until now) you could get the thing to learn fissure, when a pokemon takes a turn out to use mind reader, you switch pokemon IMMEDIATELY. Unless you're an arrogant player.

Since, I don't have the time to do stuff, without the book, and I've ended up with a Fire combo type as my highest level pokemon (never mix your fire types! There is only one pokemon where the types combine to make a far superior pokemon - Kingdra), I can't be bothered to go further, only to waste time. That would break my heart.

Bad enough to find out Aron learns bugger all moves despite being a tough ****er defense wise....

About the Pokemon guide, well I don't have it on me. And my parents are currently sticking all my stuff in the loft, but if I get the chance, when I get home in 8 weeks time, I'll take some photos of the lists and everything and I'll host them for as long as you want, online. I'm rather reluctant to part with my guide. Sorry.

Ah, about the Half Life. Well, um, as embarassing as this is to say. After the BF1942 demo addiction I decided it would not be a good idea to get the best FPS of the 20th Century installed on my PC.

I have no self control. I am a FPS whore.

                                Cheers thought
