I've never understood why anyone gets excited about pinball games. Sure the real thing is a bit of laugh for a few minutes but I've never played a decent console pinball game. The screens not big enough, the balls don't feel right and there is real lack of excitement that you get playing real pinball. I may be wrong about this but surely they don't sell that well, so why do they keep appearing? Has anyone here ever paid full price for one?

Got to agree with papercut here. Devil Crash on the PC Engine & MD is a superb version of videogame pinball.
If a scrolling screen is done well then it really doesnt interupt the flow of the game. The added bonus screens in Devil Crash just top it off.
Personally I prefer the "fantasy" type of pinball than a game that trys to really convert a straight table. Its not like you can have real monks and demons flying over a real table. Thats not to say I dont like the straight conversions, I had True Pinball on the PS1 and its a game i really enjoyed.
Another good one i like was Gator Pinball on the original GB. Cant remember if that was the right name but it was a good fun game.
Going to be getting a copy of Flipnic in the post soon as i saw a demo and to me it looks pretty tasty.

Pinball machines are the don, and should be played continously....Pinball console games are however complete and utter tripe... anyone who likes those games can't really like the real deal, real pinbal is about the kinetic feel of the whole thing, bashing and not tilting, saving the ball, finding the right power on the launcher....

I have played Devil Crash on the MD, didn't find it anything to shout about really. Some driving games are a lot closer to the real thing than any pinball game I have played, which I admit is not that many. I just don't think it is a pastime that translates well, maybe if you had a special controller I would be more tempted, it just doesn't feel right to me.

Devil Crash is an excellent fantasy pinball game. For something more realistic try Pro-pinball: Timeshock (ps1/dc). The physics seem pretty much perfect as do the graphics, but you'll need a larger screen to appreciate it.
I do like the real thing and most console translations are disappointing but try Timeshock. I reckon its the nearest thing to pinball perfection.

I like real pinball, and I like video pinball. As I said, a good video pinball game is like a a frenetic schmup.

Pro Pinball is easily the most realistic pinball game I've played, tho it was made by a group of Pinball enthusiasts.
The Web was the best of the tables imo despite being first, then Big Race USA, TimeShock and Fantastic Journey. All had fantastically well rendered visuals, nice music, great physics and some great little video mode games. They were all released on PC, then The Web made it to PS1 and Saturn, and I think the sequels made it to PS1, then the Dreamcast had the latter 3 released in 1 collection (which was greattho not quite as good as playing the PC versions in high resolution)
Addiction pinball was another fave just for the Worms Table. (also released as Worms Pinball).
If they have a good soundtrack, interesting table layouts, and decent physics I find PC (and Console) Pinball games great.
