Snowy times...

Watching the snow falling outside my window, it got me thinking about my favourite "snowy moments" in games. Such as the Icicle Inn and snowboarding sections in FFVII , and some of the outdoor levels in Halo.

Anybody else got any favourites?

Shenmue is a definite fav, plus Xmas NiGHTS.

The snow was always psychologically reassuring in Silent Hill as it meant you were in the "normal" world instead of the rain-lashed, hellish Dark World.

Phendora Drifts I think it's called in Metroid Prime.

I stood there for 15 minutes, just looking around at the snow falling on the level.

Brilliant.

Metal Gear Solid and Halo.

Out in the open. Windy, dark and ever so cold.

Both games had their use of snow excentuated by excellent sound effects.

the snow/ice theme in rollercoaster tycoon the ice & sleigh bell music, giant snowflakes, the igloo, castle.. I love snow and winter in games somehow it clicks with me and brings out a whole nostalgia-y type feeling.. its so cool..

..starfox adventures, although it was critically slated does the snow thing best of all for me.. the snowhorn wastes or whatever it was just sum up the whole thing.. the graphics are very warm feeling and just gorgous and the sound really works in that part of the game too..

..shadow of memories was really good with its snow too.. although the 1987 snow where that mans wife is killed is so sad....

..the opening of final fantasy tactics advance gets the snow/atmopshere thing spot on too.. shame the game quickly turns crap tho.. where the storyline goes ****e before disapearing completely and the whole degeneration of the game into nothing but a series of menu screens unlimited saga style.. (btw still like FF tactics adv. but it soo couldve been better esp. as it starts so well *cry*)

..rally games are good for their snow too.. WRC2, Colin McRae series, V-Rally 3, Shox and then Rally Championship in that order for snow-fetish rating..

How about the first snowy land in Mario 64, where you get to race the penguin down that slide

And I also remember Amiga Power magazine had a special Christmas demo of Theme Park, where the land was covered in snow and all the mechanics were dressed as snowmen....
