    Gamespot on Neo Geo

So Greg is discussing his love for the Neo Geo on Gamespotting and I wonder if anyone can help me naming a game that is shown. It involves a red ninja like dude in a side scroller using a blade and magical fire attacks. (I know you can also choose a blue dressed chap with ice balls instead of firballs). If anyone's going to watch, it's when Greg says: "when the Neo Geo did a 180 and stopped turning out crappy platformers".

I've been looking for the name of the game for a long time and any help on naming the damn game is greatly appreciated.

    Ninja Combat

EDIT - BTW, haven't looked at the pics you mention, but I'm 99% sure, anyway. Provide a link, and I'll eliminate that 1% doubt.

www.gamespot.com , click on the top story: gamespotting: Greg on Neo Geo.

      Thanks in advance Treble.

This game rocked. Although I remember that I never got very far in the game. (mainly because it shared the cabinet with my all time favourite shooter: Alpha Mission 2)

I can't see it there. Probably just being dim =/

So, I haven't followed the link properly, but is it this one?:

That's the one. *bows to Treble for finding the right one within short time with lousy description*

As I was saying to Sidez the other day, it's crap in one-player, but an excellent laugh in 2P. I have ASOII (Alpha Mission 2 in the West), and it's ok, but very dated these days. The vert shooter has just moved on so far since then. Still looks quite nice though.

I hear that a lot but most of the people that say that never comfortably got past the fourth level (yeah, I'm sure you did ). The review on classicgaming/schmups says alot imo. The reviewer struggled to find beauty in the title, then it got better but from the text and screenshot descriptions it was very clear he didn't really know what he was doing (better: what he should be doing).

Imo it's one of the deeper shooters out there. The short time limit to buy weapons for the next level. You never got too much, never too little. Only repeated play shows you which weapons to buy for which levels, most of the superweapons having multiple functions/abilities. Ground bombs and aerial bombs, smart power-up system etc. Then if you beat it, you got to try the whole thing again with a minimum of powerups and less money and time to buy the special weapons. And the screen moved twice as fast. Be "in the zone" or be dead....

But maybe you're right and maybe it didn't age very well, but in my mind it's up there with the best i've ever played.

And thanks for the Ninja Combat info. I can't describe the warm feeling thinking about those games and the arcades I played them in.
Hell, I think warmly of the cabinet repair guy who regularly gave me 99 credits to practise with.
