Edge selling comparably to C&VG? Oh how the mighty are fallen...

      Subtle .

I'm surprised Games Master sells as much as it does . Are all magazines included, or only those that actually 'register'?

I just don't see the point to games mags anymore when you have the net. I can't believe they sell that much even.

I can't see the point either. Haven't bought a video game mag for over a year now. Don't think i've missed anything important.

Nothing to hide. The simple fact is that the Directors want to ABC the mag went it has had a full year's woth of sales. As you recall, games? started out as a bi-monthly title and only went monthly last Feb/March. Since then, we've been working hard to get the mag distributed into the outlets that we'd like and convince retail that there is indeed room for another multiformat mag ? it was pretty tough convincing them that there was a market for a high-priced, non-cover-promoted, multiformat mag in the first place, especially as the other three mags are all so established.

Obviously, I am but a cog in the decision-making process at Highbury Entertainment, but as the Group Editor of the title, I will be pusing to get it ABC'd as soon as.

            Rgds,

            Simon

Why do future publishing really need to have 4ps2 mags and 4 xbox ones? One not combine a few of them and save a bit of money?

Is it that important as long as they manage to sell enough to keep on writing their great mag? Sales only matter to accountant people. Although I suppose there is always the issue of job security guaranteed by sales.

OXM-UK sells loads and it is officially the worst thing ever to have come crawling out of Future's pus-filled orifice. People only buy it for the demos I'm sure, unless there are a lot of stupid 29 year olds, given the average Xbox owner age.

Heck, as long as that Pokemon article comes out this issue, I'll buy it.

Of course its important. From a cold, corporate view, the core of any magazine business is a readership issue - essentially what quantity of readership exists. This is used to garner advertising revenue, which is what pays for the magazine.

If you're going to look at things fondly, if something is selling well then it must be doing something right. I would be interested to know if gamesTM is appealing to the masses that buy games magazines - not just the import/hardcore/retronut otaku that it could be construed as being written for.

Plus, looking at that list above, being a multiformat magazine can garner very mixed results.

Ouch, Xbox Gamer lost nearly half it's readers. I didn't know XBM was the most popular of the unofficial Xbox mags and CUBE was more popular than NGC. If it wasn't for them buying up PSW, Future would be being beaten on each format. What happened to the Future of the 90s who released quality magazines that sold well? I can't believe how dull NGC and OPSM2 have got.

BTW, why is Cube listed under Highbury-Entertainment? Has Pargon been renamed or something?

Yes, we were bought out by Highbury a few months back.

I love how some people are so preoccupied with sales figures, whether it be games or consoles or (now) games magazines. makes me think that the author of this thread works in retail

basically Games TM has improved immensely in my opinion since its launch ... its now on a par with Edge and both magazines complement each other perfectly, a multi-format gamer doesn't need any more than these 2 each month ... and if the sales figures don't show this then its hardly surprising, especially when you consider that Edge has gone 10 years without outselling the likes of Games Master
