When do you sell/trade your games?

Recently, i've been seeing the number of games I own stack up quite a bit.

The thing is, I always think about selling or trading them in but then think "Oh, I think i'll want to play this again someday", and then dont really dare get rid of it incase I really want to play it again. Also, I never really nave any bad games, because I usually buy essentials only, otherwise i'd just get rid of the trash.

So I was wondering, how do you judge when to get rid of a game? I think it'd be quite helpful to see how others judge it.

I balance between how much I think I will get for it and how often I think I will play it in the future. Recently I sold MKD even though I knew I would play it at random intervels in the future but not enough to warrant me keeping it. The decision to sell was aided by the fact that cex.co.uk were offering ?26.25 for it

Some games I buy and just do not enjoy as much as I would have hoped so I just get rid of them. SSX 3, P.N.03 and Viewtiful Joe have all fallen to this because even if I could see why people think they are so good, they just did not captivate me.

Of course, if I was looking for cash all bets are off and I would sell any game from my collection.

I sell the majority of games that I buy just because the majority of games I buy really are not essential. Some games I will play to completion before selling, and some I just dont really click with. I dont have an emotional attachment to any of my games so I dont struggle to part with any. Plus most games will end up coming down in price over time (there are obviously exceptions) so if I want to buy it again I can and I would have saved some money in the mean time.

I have sold/traded far too many games in the past. I didn?t have a job last year, and money was pretty tight, so the only way I could afford to purchase new titles was by selling some of my old.

It has broken my hurt selling some of them. Many I have had to re-buy again at a later date. Now though, I am determined to only sell the titles I feel I can happily live without, titles i wouldnt look at on my shelf and smile at. The others that I feel are essential titles, be they have potential to be played again or not, shall stay in my collection... they are the ones i feel proud to own.

However this causes a slight problem?. Im like you electric_warrior, it is very rare that I will buy a title that I don?t consider to be highly enjoyed or essential for me to own. I sometimes take a risk and buy something which im not 100% sure of, yet feel it may provide some entertainment (recent examples being XIII, Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia) and usually these will be the titles I sell in the future...

Prince of Persia, although a brilliantly programmed game, failed to truly engross me, and I couldn?t see myself playing until the end, so I have already sold that. BG&E however, was a great experience, and even though I wont play it again until a good year or so, I feel it is of quality to stay in my collection?

And then there are the essential titles that I will never sell. Such games like my Zelda?s, Metroid Prime and Soul Calibur 2. Others like Pikmin, Eternal Darkness to name a few I stupidly sold in the past and have re-bought. And now shall not depart with again?

Im getting FF CC soon, this will probably be a title I will sell or trade. I shall complete it, enjoy it, yet feel it isn?t really something I cherish so could happily pass it on for other to enjoy.

Also.. very rarely, the actual Boxart has a slight influence whether it stays or not

I have recently made the decision not to sell any more games. Too many times in the past I have sold games only to want them a few years later. Also I enjoy looking at my ever increasing collection.

When do I sell my games?

When my credit card is crying from the disgusting over spending I indulge in

I'm a bit of a hoarder and try to keep everything.
If a game is awful I'll sell it on straight away, fortunately for me it's rare that I buy a total turkey like this. When need's must though, like when the said card is under strain, I'll pretty much sell anything that isn't 1st party Nintendo. Then more than likely re-buy it.
The likes of PN03, Cubivore and I-Ninja are testiment to me selling a game and then purchasing it again a few months down the line for a bargain price.

I'm bit of a hoarder. I have way too many games. I could probably get rid of 90% of my games and not really worry. I only get rid of games if I really don't like them (doesn't happen very often), if I need the cash (hardly ever happens and even then I'll only get rid of stuff that's likely to depreciate further) or if a new update is coming out (for instance I sold both VF4 and PES2 a few months prior to the release of their sequels).

I need to thin my games collection but not being desperate for cash atm I can't be arsed.

I have a hadful of games I'd be willing to get rid of, thing is they are all so old now I don't think there's much point.

PAL Devil May Cry - I have the NTSC version now.
EA F1 2001 - who needs this with Grand Prix Challenge?
Sony F1 2000 + DVD - I'm fairly sure no games shop will give me any extra for the season review DVD
FFX - I've got FFX international, but I want to hold on to the bonus disc
                VF4 - I've got VF4 evo.

I wouldn't consider getting rid of anything other than duplicates or games that have been superceded. Although I should, for the first time ever I've got too many.

Practically never unless I have 2 or more copies of something or have traded up to an NTSC version over PAL.

So this is an expensive and cash consuming hobby for me.

I hate selling any games but occasionly the misses gets on my back about clearing out my office, and then I will look at selling games that I have a superior sequal for (say PES/PES 2 as I have PES 3), but then I wouldn't make much cash on them, a tenner at the very most and it feels like I am chucking the game into the dustbin.

I guess the real solution to this is not to buy so many games, and just buy the ones that you think you will play over and over or become collectable (if thats your bag), but obviously thats easy with hindsight.

When skint or I've finished everything I want to do in the title and have no intention of revisiting.

Ok, another question would be WHERE do you sell your games? It's not worth it selling on the high street from what I can tell.

I will never sell anything from my games collection,
I still regret selling all my Amiga stuff (and it was a lot!) a couple of years ago for a new jap psx (on release)
