    Streetfighting...

Okay just how good is Streetfighter 3: Third Strike?

I've been playing this gem rather frequently lately having picked it up about a year ago.

After all the Alpha upgrades and Capcom vs Marvel out of this worldness its rather nice to come back to a game that just oozes the original World Warrior charm...

To revist Ken, Ryu, Akuma before they took a walk on the wildside after Super Turbo. Does anyone else get the same feeling of returning to where it all began in Third Strike.

Also The Hong Kong duo kick some serious SF booty.

I couldn't believe it the first time GILL used his resurrection special on me. I was like grrrrrr!

Anyway I've seen Third Strike mentioned numerous times on these boards. Just how special is it in terms of 2D fighters past and present?

I'm beginning to get the feeling that it's even better than its predecessor. It's certainly the most solid fighter I've played for years.

it's very good... i just love the combo system on it, schmoooooove, but the characters are ****, if you could throw the Alpha3 cast in there it'd be perfect IMO.

personally i think its the best 2D fighter ever.
i still play all the time, more than soul calibur 2 which i've only had for a week.
I agree it feels like a true continuation of street fighter 2, rather than the zero/alpha series which was going a bit too far towards the marvel games for my liking.
3rd strike is more pure, no air blocking, only one super, and parries add to the tactics and technicality of the play.

(should probably add, even though i love it...pretty sure i'm rubbish )

SF3 3rd is my favourite 2D beat em up.

At first I didnt like the way Capcom put throws and overheads on as 2 buttons, but soon realised it was the way forward. The parrying is an art in itself, it can turn the tide of a match completely and totally reworks the pace of Streetfighter matches - Parrying a supermove in someones face is the ultimate way to show your skill (and scare the hell out of them )

Too right, although I agree (mostly) about the character roster. Have you guys read my review?

SFIII:3rd Strike is a great game. It'd be perfect if only the backgrounds and menu styles were a bit better. 2nd Impact has better ones.

I'm sorry but I think the SF 3 series is utter dross!

The new characters were generally weak which lead to most people just picking Ken/Ryu/Akuma and doing the same old thing...Kick, kick fireball!

The idea of choosing your super art at the beginning.......total nonsense! So for the sake of trying to give it a different angle we're only going to allow you to have 1 super...great idea that!

Hated Gill!! Some ponce with long blonde hair dressed in a G-string!! Plus the cheap assed special of getting all his energy back!

Give me Arikas SF EX series anyday....or better still give me SF Alpha (first one) with the all the Alpha 3 characters!

For me Capcom lost the plot a long time ago (altho the CvS is alright)...Give me KoF any day!!

The new characters are mostly great. I think that's your problem, they're new. Not clones. Maybe...train up as one of them. Makoto and Helena are quite rewarding.

I found Gill to be quite a cool boss. Way more "gggrrr ****ing die" than Vega.

the only character i dont like is twelve, but thats because imo i dont think his weird shape-shifting fits the sf universe very well.
there are some excellent characters, i dont understand why people dont like them....Alex, Dudley, Ibuki, Yun/Yang and Makoto are all cool.
If you know people who just use the shoto characters all the time, you should learn someone different and mix it up a bit...show them why they should change.

I'll agree a little though, i dont like Gill much, but thats just cos he cheats

                      Well everyone has their opinions

and as far as I'm concerned

                      Lame

                      Necro
                      Oro
                      Twelve
                      Q
                      Alex

                      Average

                      Dudley
                      Hugo
                      Ibuki
                      Makoto
                      Urien
                      Sean

                      Good

                      Yun/Yang
                      Elena

                      Remy = Guile

                      The others are old.

And from the above only 1/2 really fit within the SF universe!

I'm sorry but you are so totally wrong! If you learn the game properly you'll find it's true depth and realise that "lame" characters like alex are actually extremely powerful and works of genius as far as beat em up game systems work. How can you rate Alex alongside Twelve?? Have you not seen any skilled Alex? Looks like you are blaming the game for your lack of skill due to the fact that you havent given it the time it requires or getting the challenges you need.

                            Ibuki is ridiculously good!

The style you can put into her techs is unbelievable -

For example: after a knockdown her forward-forward/back-back taps and can pass straight through the floored opponent. So you can time it so you teleport through them as they get up and maul them in their back. Also all her hcb+k is variable - so you can get high and lows in to stop people anticipating the parry. Her reverse dragon kick is one of the best pressure moves in the game as you CANNOT do **** against it to retaliate after the right setups (plus you got the shuriken if they jump, or hcf+p if they stand)

Ibuki is just pure RUFF! - dont get me started on Makuto! (she's just EVIL in the right hands)

                              Alex SICKNESS:

If you want to get into Alex - try these basic setups:-

MK+MP 4 -10 frames- hcb+P - his overhead (whether it connects or not will go straight into his command grab)

                              Stungun setup:
This is so easy it's criminal, do a strong shoulderbarge (charge back, forward+HK) against a defending opponent and cancel it into the Stungun Headbutt with medium punch. They cant do anything cos they are still in the blocking frames so the super will connect. Next hit them with a strong Flash (hcf+HP) then or have a choice out of HCB+P (for reverse suplex) or back+HP for choke hold. *this setup will take around 40% damage and is 100% certain.
