    [PSone] Star Ocean 2

I saw this at my local Gamestation (PAL version) going for an astronomical ?49.99 second hand!

Do you reckon I should buy it? I've never heard of this game. Anyone actually played it? What's it like?

Its a good game... not worth 50 quid though.

GS are feeling a bit optimistic

I've been playing, not enought to go in depth about it. But unlike Final Fantasy the battles have movement and freedom. There is no ATB stuff, though you can have it that way if you want. You just battle and go. It is a surprisingly deep and fun game, what I've played so far.

I basically had it for over a year but just started dabbling to warm up for Star Ocean 3. You can pick two different story paths and I guess each is different I've only tried Claude(I forget his name). I logged a couple of hours into it and I want to put some more time into to get in the skills and other things. I believe it is made by the same people who made Valkerie Profile a great game which is fun but I'm completely lost in.

If you like big massive deep and fun RPGs I'd say get it. The voices during the battle kind of make your ears bleed but the game's depth and fun make up for it. I hope that helps. I think I can get it for cheaper in the states. That's too much for it.

Its 21.00 USD right here Of course its backordered too, but still cheaper.

        Cheers Guys.

I think I'll give it a miss then. There is a PAL version currently on eBay at ?58 with 1 day to go so I'll keep an eye on that for a while to see if it hits the ton.

I managed to pick up a mint copy of Bubble Bobble feat Rainbow Islands for ?21 from them today so I'm reasonably happy.

PAL Star Ocean seems to sell for a fair amount. The ?50 that GS are charging is not too bad. It's very hard to get hold of. Despite the game having a TV ad campaign I never actually saw it on sale anywhere. Ended up getting it off eBay a couple years back for ?12.50. It's a really good game. Easily one of the better PS1 RPG's but probably not worth ?50, unless you look at it from the point of view that you'll probably get at least ?40 if you sell it on at a later date.

Get the US version, I paid like 16 quid for it. It's worth buying for the item creation and skill system alone. This is one of the few RPG's where it's actually more fun to prat around levelling up and nurturing skills than progressing the story line. Just don't expect much help from the game manual, gamefaqs is a must to get a handle on the way superskills and item creation works.

Yep, I second getting the US version. It's a good game, it's also spawned an anime series and manga - which follows the story of the game. I like the story more than anything, the battle system's nothing great to write home about (IMO). But still worth getting if you can find it for the ?15 or so (the US version).

I got the US version when it was released, I've never finished it

I might get round to it before SO3 comes out in the US. The graphics are pretty nice, and I'm sure I read that it had about 80 odd different endings due to the way you could build character relationships with your party members.

The combat system is fantastic as well. You have free movement in the battle field, you can choose to assign AI to your party members as well for truly mental fights.
