    SID tunage

Just blasting through a few C64 games and got onto listening to a load of tracks from the "High Voltage SID collection". Some really groovy tunes in there for sure.

Who is your favorite SID composer?

I reckon the Maniacs of Noise did some technically amazing tricks with the SID, but overall I think it's got to be Rob Hubbard's compositions that do it for me.

Used to be a staunch Rob Hubbard fan, but I'm warming to Martin Galway in my old age.

Tim Follin's stuff is always incredible too, especially Ghouls 'n' Ghosts and Bionic Commando.

I used to like some of the older less technical stuff too, like Ben Daglish, Matt Grey and David Whitaker. The Last Ninja soundtracks are very good in parts, written by several different people.

Mayhem - have you ever seen Koyaanisqatsi? Delta (main theme) is probably my favourite piece of C64 music of all time, and by chance I bought Koyaanisqatsi on DVD recently.

I knew the Delta theme was based on something, but I didn't realise it was this. The entire 90 minute film is scored by a single piece of music by Philip Glass. The Delta theme is basically a Rob Hubbard remix of the entire soundtrack. Even the title tune is a wierd sped up vesion of a piece from the sound track. If you're a fan of the music in Delta its well worth getting a copy of the soundtrack, its a very strange involving piece of music.

        I am indeed.

I'd forgotten all about the epic Parallax title music until I read your top20. How could I? One of the best pieces of music on the machine and amazingly ambitious considering. Wonder if anyone has done a remake of Parallax? There seems to be a growing number of old 8bit tunes getting the overhaul these days, I'll have to try and hunt it down.

Your one-stop site for Commodore 64 SID chiptune remixes.

For C64 remixes in mp3 format... some of them blow your mind!

Best Parallax cover I would go for the "No Other Medicine" version though it isn't a strict cover of it. Some of the covers go more on the build up part (the first 8 minutes) and some go for the main section (the next 3 minutes). That's the way Parallax is!

In general, download all the stuff by these guys...

          Machinae Supremacy
          O2

I'll add a few to the list...

LED Storm (Tim Follin) appears to have been missed. That had some cool ditties (nice appregiated Hi-score table) and some cool chord structures, not usually heard in much music.
            W.A.R. (Rob Hubbard) - Title.
Terra Cesta (Martin Galway) - Main game theme.

Yourr bang on about Koyaanisqatsi being an inspiration to the music in Delta. In fact, the series of pieces are my favorite classical pieces.

I'm not much of a fan of the underground scene, but techically the music is very good.
