    100 Marios

Remember the reports of Nintendo's Gamecube technology demo which showed 128 marios running around on screen at one time?

Well, I looked around and the videos are available to download here!

This is the first time I'd seen these, apologies if it's old news to everyone else. Makes me wish they'd given 100 marios away free with the GC at launch, like Miyamoto once mentioned...

What happened to the other 28? :P

I think Edge had this on its E3 disc a couple of years ago.

IMO tech. demos should be given to the consumer. Manufacturers need to start putting their money where their mouth when it comes to console power. Instead of telling us what it's capable of, prove it by letting us experience it for ourselves as and when we want to

Yeah, like the amazing Manta Ray/T-Rex demo that came with the PAL PS1? I watched them for so long...

I just watched the whole 100 Marios demo and it was great. You can tell it was adapted for Pikmin - the Marios even make the same noise as the Pikmin

It would have been great to have been able to play with that demo though - adding motion blur, raising/lowering parts of the platform and watching the Marios react by falling over, pushing each other off the edge etc You could waste loads of time just messing around

Maybe it will be an unlockable bonus in Mario 128? (If/when that rumour reaches the magazine industry...remember who said it first)

Well, a full playable version of this has been on the cards for a while, Nintendo have neither confirmed nor denied that they're making this as a full game. Mario 128 might even BE this as a full game. I think Miyamoto alluded to it a few times but it was a long time ago. Can't find any quotes to support this, though.

pc graphics cards used to come with tech demos to play with, I remember my GF2 came with an awesome first person shooter thing, the graphics were amazing.... I think in the end that game became Giants.

psone and saturn came with tech demo discs too didnt they?

they should definitly start doing it again anyway, nothing like some good eye candy for showing off your new purchases

I once read on another board and insider saying that the demo had been updated and you could drop items in and the Marios would react. Like you could drop in a toilet and they would all form a queue. Whether that was true insider or someone spouting crap though I don't know.

I hope the 100 Marios game doesn't become Mario 128. That demo looks fun but it would be boring after 15 minutes

There's only one Mario 128 rumour that I actually like - and that's 128 'void' levels from Mario Sunshine. Now that would be good.

Yeah, a whole game of Mario Sunshine void levels would be excellent. They were the highlight of Mario Sunshine in my eyes. They are perfect examples of true 3D platforming not this 3D-adventure-quasi-platforming-collecting malarky.

Me and Boog are planning on making a game like this! Problem is I can't program and he doesn't really have the time.

Someone should definitely make a game like this though, because I don't think Nintendo are ever going to. I read Miyamoto saying he tends not to give games the go-ahead if the proposal is along the lines of 'take this part of this game and do this to it'- he's always pushing for ideas which are going to 'surprise'.
