In retrospect, I think a lot of you are probably right in that's it's more to do with the internet and exposure to rumours and such. That and individual pace. I for one have got too much on my plate from this gen to consider moving on just yet.

I agree it's all moving too fast nowadays.

It's a complete change from the 'old' days where I couldn't wait to get my hands on a Super Nintendo and then the N64, the waiting seemed to take forever.

Today, I'm totally happy with what I've got and what I have yet to play on the current machines. Plus, as I'm always going back to to my other machines, sometimes my current-gen consoles won't get a look in for months, and by that time, a whole host of games have hit the shelves that I want to buy and play.

But, sigh, I'm getting older, slower, less time on my hands, so I could do with a few more years with the current consoles please! But then, I guess I'm not the target audience anymore, as I once was, so Xbox5 ( ) will be snapped up by the kids, frothing over Halo 4...I divulge...

In summary, I blame Microsoft's over-anticipation to get my dosh/make me subscribe to Live!/belive online is the future. Everyone else seems to be forced to tag along.

      Hey, sloow down, man.

Sometimes when I go into Game I still see people buying PS1 games - and, as someone who hopes to get into the industry one day, as well as a gamer/fan, that terrifies me!

I think at the end of the day, though, people will vote with their wallets. I know that unless there's a massively killer-ap no way am I paying premium prices for my consoles, I'm not getting tricked again (after the ?250 N64 plus ?60 for Mario64, and ?300-odd for an imported Cube (although decent prices for the ps2 and xbox)).

I also think it's not fair to 'blame' Microsoft - the PC market itself is constantly upgrading itself and so I guess consoles will have that 'platform' to contend with as well, I just think everyone needs to slow down a bit - PC devcos should let the massmarket upgrade their machines and their game sales will rise, and in the same way console manufacturers shouldn't rush into the next generation so quickly, it dismays me. :/

The store i work at sells more units of used playstation 1 games than playstation 2 games!! The majority of buyer? mothers buying games for their children.

Moving too fast for me? Hell no, I can't wait for PS3/XBN although I'm not excited by N5 just yet, I need some vaguely impressive specs first

Too fast for developers? Big time, XNA can't come soon enough, if it works like J Allard and co. want it to then it could end up saving a lot of developers.

I read an interview with some NOJ guy on Gamespy yesterday where he said that the next generation could be almost indistinguishable from the current if developers don't concentrate on making their games different not just prettier, so from this perspective, I'd say that things are moving slowly. Maybe, just maybe, the technological arms race won't be enough next gen to sell games.

It's been said time and time again, but the sooner the industry breaks through that technological brick wall, the sooner creativity can come to the fore once again. As in "we can do all the polys we want, now lets do something interesting with them instead of trying to do more than everyone else."

I refuse to buy the next gen consoles until I see some proper games getting regular releases...not necessarily innovative or original games but games that are going to give me something that my current consoles can't (and I mean more than pretty wall textures or individual blades of grass...or the dozens of other things that fanboys rave about that have absolutely no impact on playing a game ) And there's the problem - this generation is already giving us exactly what we need for deep, immersive gameplay...IMO very few games next generation are going to improve on this outside of making it look nicer

Show me the next gen games to rival Rez's fun factor, Evo's depth of play or Prince of Persia's amazing level design and I'll buy the next generation consoles without any hesitation. Try and sell me a console because of Halo 3, Half Life 2 or some MMORPG and you're wasting your time and money

Yeah, but where do you work. I mean, if you work at tescos you'll get a lot of impulse buyers spending ?5-?10 on a PSone game on a whim, but possibly not spending ?35-?40 on a PS2 game to satisfy thier kids.

If you were to work in a videogame specific store where people enter with the purpose of purchasing a game it'll have more of a reflection on the industry.
