    Dutch footballers in games

Why do games like WE and TIF (This Is Football) have licenses for pretty much every player going except the names of current Dutch internationals?

TIF fiddles with names so you at least have an idea who they are (Horseface = Rod Nistroy), but WE is very embarassing with memorable names such as Oranges 11 and my favourite Oranges 24.

I dunno if FIFA's the same.

From what I can recall, I think there was a problem with the Dutch FA allowing game developers the use of Dutch player names.

It only seems to be current internationals that are missing, as far as I can tell anyway.

My wonderful Stoke side on TIF has Ed De Goey and Peter Hoekstra's names correctly - both EX internationals.

Why would the Dutch FA have a problem with this anyway?

The Dutch FA, somehow, have the license to distribute their players names and likenesses independently of FIFA or UEFA I believe. Hence no money = no proper names.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

I think there was some sort of lawsuit a couple of years ago involving feyenoord and psv eindhoven regarding the rights to their players and images being used without their permission or something.

          google'd and found...

Oliver Kahn was involved in a case and his likeness and name in a game.

Must be why WE7's germany keeper has Kalm as a name instead of FAT HEAD

I like stupid names in sports games. Okay, sometimes it's nice to be playing with real players, but other times I want some silly make believe names.

I remember the key English striker for N64 ISS 98 was called Derek Butcher or something. Go Del!

Remember in SWOS on the Amiga there was a Reservoir dogs team, a Pulp Fiction team and an Amiga Power magazine team? That was amazing.
