You won't regret it mate. My favourite arcade racer since Rave Racer.

The cards are actually in the machine. When you start a game, it will ask you to insert your card. You press start to confirm you don't have one. It will then inform you about the Card System (what it does basically) and gives you the opportunity to buy one (usually costs the same as a single credit). The game then starts as normal. When you finish the card will be ejected.

Awesome! I've also ordered the 10 disc DVD box set too. Been reading so much about the game/anim? on the web lately. Sega seem to have secured the more adult version of Pok?mon! lol

'tis true. Sega have here what I consider to be the best use of a license in a videogame in my memory. What's great is watching the anime will actually teach you how to race faster by using the techniques seen such as guttering (which i wish i could do properly).

coming back to uni means i get to play initial d again! wai! put a few quid in yesterday and i've lost a little of my edge (my time trials weren't quite up to speed yet) but i was still quick enough to beat bunta and not give takumi a look-in on happogahara

            Sick,

The anime is essential background material if you want to fully appreciate what Sega have done. The anime gives you all the essential techniques and knowledge that you need to become an Akina downhill master.

Also I found the Eurobeat tunes to be really enjoyable. (Yes I am sick in the head).

              ok- here's a question:

How much money do people estimate they've put in this machine now.

I find myself putting almost a fiver in every two days so I look forward to the ps2 release with some anticipation.

::barges his way into the room::

                  Initial D n00b, coming thru!

So, just how hard is this game? I'm really looking forward to it from all your impresisons (thanks for those, btw), but if you need absolutely sick techniques to do well, I'm not going to buy it - I don't like complex racing games.

Impressions are a bit confusing in this thread: everyone seems totally in with it, which suggests accessibility, but then people post saying you have to watch the anime to understand the techniques!

Which is it, guys? Can a total racing game spazzer like myself get to grips with it without 50+ hours racing on the clock....?

                    Around 400 pounds

this is the first time I'll use this expression but man I am sick!

The learning curve for the game is superb but don't go down with just a few quid in your hand the first time you play it. It's highly addictive and you'll want to get better and the feeling of "one more pound! I know I can beat him this time" will annoy your wallet

When you first play a basic understanding of the arcade racing genre as a whole will put you in good stead, but the game, at it?s most fundamental level, is incredibly straightforward, and the beginner track is a really good introduction to the game. The basic form of ?accel off' drifting is very similar to the Ridge Racer style (which I know you?ve been playing recently ) where you lift off the accelerator, start your tunr, then counter steer to control the drift. The actual movement on the wheel is a touch more exaggerated than in Ridge but the underlying priciple is very similar.

The ?advanced techniques? you speak of aren?t necessary to first enjoy playing the game. For example I beat all 16 standard opponents without even using the gutters once.

Think of it a little like the Soul Calibur of driving games. It can be played perfectly well without a thorough understanding of its game system. But delph into its intricacies and there is a surprisingly deep, and fulfilling, game in there.

Sounds like it'll be fine for me, then. Thanks for the explanation ^_^

Just a heads up to any London fans of the game. Play2Win arcade on Oxford Street are holding an open Initial D tournament on Sunday 11th May at 5.00 pm, which should host some impressive performances no doubt. Not that I'll be entering because....

                          1) I am a scrub at it

                          2) My legs are so long that it's a real bitch for me to get in/out the seat and I never feel comfortable.

Hopefully one of you locals with a digicam will be down there to take pics of the action.

My legs are too long as well. I've fixed the problem by grafting my entire upper torso onto the legs of Jeanette Krankie.

Now not only do I look fetching in my school-boy shorts whilst playing in comfort, I also have female genitalia!

                            RESULT!

Words cannot express how troubled I am by that

If anyone from here is going down there, I'll prolly pass thru to be dazzled for a while. No digicam mind, I could try and do some artists impressions like they do in court though.

Ok- can someone explain this to me please?

There are no good ID players where I live so I have to make use of scraps of knowledge I find here to improve my technique
