Odama - From makers of Seaman

    From IGN

May 11, 2004 - Hidden away in its E3 2004 press kit were first details on a previously unannounced GameCube title called Odama. The game, which is developed by Vivarium (Seaman for Dreamcast), is still something of an enigma and depending on the overall execution could be surreal and intriguing or incredibly lame and uninteresting. We're hoping for the former.

In Odama, players fire a giant pinball known as -- conveniently enough -- the Odama around a real-time strategy-like environment set to the backdrop of ancient Japan. Giant-sized flippers help direct the ball through the environment as it crashes over enemy battalions and into troop barracks. But Odama-ists will have to be careful not to crush their own troops underneath the giant weight of the rolling pinball. Gamers will be challenged to collect prisoners of war, who will -- once captured -- become allies. Allied troops will, according to the press sheet on the game, do their best to dam rivers, liberate extra flippers and clear the way to the enemy's gate.
A rumor is going around that Odama may also feature a unique relationship with Nintendo's soon-to-be released DK Bongo controller.

Look for Odama to be released sometime in 2005.

No screens or videos are yet available for Odama, but kiosks for the title are already set up on the E3 show floor.
This was the rumoured Samurai game. Sounds interesting!

    That sounds suitably insane!
I expect it to be a masterpiece.

      Looks quite interesting.

If this doesn't work then Odama is now listed on Nintendo.com with 4 screenshots. Hopefully we will get some hands on and videos from the remainder of E3.

        Hands on impressions...

It sounds hard and weird! I'm sold.

Is it Gamecube exclusive or multi platform?

This game sounds right up my street and if done correctly will surely develop a cult following.

Gamecube exclusive, Nintendo are publishing. Gamespot have some great hands on that make it sound even better.

Wow. Its going to take a fair bit of work to find two more oddly matched games to throw in the genre-blender than Shogun: Total War and Pinball.

Its completely insane, but I like it.

This was ace! One of the most original and surprising games at the show.

Loads of nice touches and very playable. Hard to get to play though as they only had a handful of machines running it, and people were so addicted they were playing for ages.

Heard something new: the konga drums can be placed into the second controller port and played during Odama to boost troop morale.
From AniHawk on Gamefaqs who seemed clued up. That's pretty good thinking. Player 1 controls the troops and odama, Player 2 plays miliatary drums to keep morale up! Excellent.
