Metal Gear Acid (??!!) for PSP screens

This is on a handheld ??!!

No firm details as yet - might be a remake, but seems like an all new title. At the Sony conference they confirmed that Hideo Kojima is on board but he refused to answer questions on it.

My guess is he wants to keep it underwraps as much as possible while still letting it be used a a selling point for the PSP

I'm wondering how all these DS and PSP 3D games will play with a d pad!

The one thing that is making me skeptical about this (and I also doubt the new LoZ - No game play buttons = fmv?) is that none of these games have been shown running on the finished PSP hardware. Ok so the specs will be the same as the PC or whatever they are running on - But will they? How are the framerates gonna be?

      That is quite impressive.

But please, from the 2nd screenshot, someone tell me that this game isn't including some dam cardbattle bollocks.

      Otherwise, nice! 8)

Looks like it might be a system whereby equiping different items alters your stats.

Could it be an RPG MGS ?

It looks great! I assume you've seen the GT4 PSP shots...
          Though.... cards? How odd.
I like the idea of equipping stuff to change your attributes. Notice that the life bar is now comprised of numbers. I guess this is to reflect your amount of life more accurately, so you can see the effect of an equipped item.
No idea what the little diamond next to it oculd mean, though.
          And Rest?
Extra lives? I hope not... Metal Gear needs infinite continues.
          We'll see.
Well done, Kojima, I'm yet again officially intruiged.

            Looks pretty impressive.

I wonder what utter bollocks this story will be about... looks like MGS1 Snake, Shadow Moses interior, and Big Shell guards.

            Metal Gear Acid?

I'm probably reading into it too much, but maaaaaybe Acid is a reference to either a Solid being dissolved or another product of the

Or it's just a side story, Ghost Babel stylee.

              Edit: Oooh, maybe it's this

HUGE MGS1 SPOILER. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Probably not, but speculation is fun!

The DS has an analogue stick thingy, although it is in the stupidest place, even worse than the Z button on the GC pad.

Looks very nice. Not quite PS2 graphics, but not a million miles away.

Looks like sony are re-using successful triple A titles (with this and GT both on PSP) as killer apps for the system. I must say that i was sceptical about the PSP but these shots show how sony are the best at using the hype machine to full effect. Im really looking forward to seeing this title progress and it looks utterly amazing for a handheld game.

Yah baby! Thats exactly what I was looking forward to. Looks very nice, has a slight RPG look to it with those cards there. Perhaps turn basd manourvres as opposed to real time action? (Im thinking Faselei here)

Either way, Im looking forward to this.

I thought we established in the psp thread that the thing is a speaker and the analogue feature is just the dpad like the ps2 pads analogue buttons

Looks very nice but i am very very suprised PSP has no analogue stick. Hopefully unlike MGS2 i won't get baffled by the complexity of the story in this one.

                          Taken from Gamespot:

"Though there aren't any actual, playable PSP games here at E3, Sony is showing off plenty of game demos at its booth, including Konami's new Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Acid. While the demo isn't very long at all, it does reveal a few tidbits about its gameplay.

The largest revelation to come out of this demo is that Metal Gear Acid isn't an action adventure game like its predecessors. Instead, the game is a turn-based tactical strategy game, with what appears to be some card battle-like mechanics mixed in. You'll move Snake a certain number of squares around a map as you try to sneak up behind guards and take them out.

The cards are, essentially, your weapons. We saw cards for most of the standard Metal Gear weapons, including silenced rifles, claymores, and the like. The turn-based game also gives you some other options, such as the ability to crouch out of sight, knock on walls, and so on. After ending your turn, the screen moves around to the enemy soldiers on the map, giving them each a turn to act. Things like moving and putting certain weapons into play have a cost associated with them, limiting the amount of things you can do during one turn.

Graphically, Metal Gear Acid looks pretty sharp for a portable game. The demo gets up close and personal with the models for Snake and the genome soldiers he attempts to eliminate, and the models look pretty sharp, even at close range. The demo is slightly interactive, but it only allows you to control the camera during the action, not actually control any of the happenings in the game.

Certainly sounds original, turn-based MGS. But will it go down well with the fanbase at large?

P.S It does have an analogue stick Ju, GS confirmed the nub beneath the pad is an analogue.....er.....nipple.

Turnbased = you don't have to process moving graphics at the same time as processing input = so you can have slightly shinier graphics than if you were trying to relate them to instantaneous input. Perhaps?

I think in some ways MGS lends itself to turn-based play, but they'd better cut those cut-scenes too. No-one will want to watch them on a handheld...
