Is EA the Mcdonalds of gaming?

Think about it, all the parents buy EA games for their kids, IE they all buy Fifa because it is the 'official' football game with all the kits and of course the name..

The games are really produced with little thought but somehow sell a hell of a lot of copies.

          No.

They make games that people want to buy and are intelligent enough to buy in decent licences at a good price and then make huge wodges of moolah of the back of them by delivering games on time. For that reason, some people seem to think they are the anti-christ . They also realise though that clever marketing will only get you so far, so they are forever updating their games and at least trying to improve their franchises (witness Tiger Woods and Fight Night for start).

IIRC, EA didn't want to release annual updates for its sports titles, but public demand for them eventually meant that they gave in. So it's your fault that we get annual updates of FIFA.

They also publish and have published a lot of very worthy software. They ain't saints, but they ain't half as bad as some people make out.

I'd say a closer comparison would be something like West Life. They produce stuff for which there is a demand for and they produce it very well. The hardcore hate them for appealing to the lowest common denominator, but they don't care. Possibly, if the consumers looked further afield, they might realise there is some better stuff around, but these consumers can't be bothered to look and they're happy, so why should they?

Are we talking about there sports titles or all of there games here, some of the games they have developed themselves or published are usally pretty good in some cases ground breaking, lets see The Sims, Black and White, Battlefield, shall I continue?

If I ever had to think of a title that summed up "mass produced generica", The Sims would be one of the first things that sprang to mind.

As for B&W and BF1942, they weren't developed by EA (by Lionhead and DICE respectively), only published.

I remember buying John Maddens 93 for the Megadrive, that game must have come out in at least 10 different incarnations.

Then you can't have very much in your mind . The Sims is one of the more innovative games of the last few years, so it cannot possibly be called 'generic'. It's the one of the few games that has really crossed huge boundaries of players of all types.

The reason that the hardcore dislike it is because it has sits outside of what people think constitutes a normal 'game', has sold more copies than the Bible and has a bazillion different add on packs, but again if people are happy to buy them (and they obviously are) then why shold EA not release them?

Mostly their sports titles, ie Fifa 98,99,00,01, we constantly see a yearly update. Battlefield has got to be one of the best games ever.

Because they could save up all their good ideas for a proper sequel, everyone would have to spend less money for more quality, and Maxis would come out with their credibility intact. In a nutshell.

Yawn TBFH... what a boring thread. This reads like something from RLLMUK >____<

EA are nothing like as bad as people make out. Yes they are the biggest publisher in the world, yes they release yearly updates that sometimes offer limited improvments. However, they do release some great games also. Fight Night? Tiger Woods? Battlefield?

For as long as I can remember, its been 'cool' to bash EA, somehow making you 'above' the people that buy their games, and a more 'discerning' gamer.

Yawn yawn yawn, someone please look this pointless thread.

No-one said it made you cool, or above anyone else. It does mean you are a 'discerning' gamer though... that's fact! Look it up in the big thing you use to prop up your retarded mother's broken wheelchair. It's called a 'dictionary'.
