Harvest moon link up help

Im having some problems with Harvest moon on Gamecube and the link up facility on it to link with Harvest moon: friends of mineral town on the Game boy advance.

I put the GBA in, the link up cable in and press A when prompted to do so. And nothing appears to happen as it just stays on the cancel screen.

Do I have to get to a point in Mineral Town on the GBA where it offers the choice to link up, Do I need to wait for a longer time (I waited 5 minites intill I decided to cancel) or is there another way?

You've got to go to the waterfall in FMT and throw something into the water to talk to the Harvest Goddess. She'll then ask if you want to connect to yr Cube. Choose yes, off you go...
