I've scrolled through this thread and can find no mention of which CPU you're currently running. To be honest, with my 2200+ and ti4200, BF1942 runs fine @ 1024. I'd therefore ask if you're sure that the graphics card is maxing out, rather than the cpu.

No point in one without the other.

A very good point. My setup is 2100+ and ti4200 and i have had no problems at all running any game.

I've got a 1700. I've been told that it's the gfx card, rather than the CPU that's holding me back.

Has someone been telling me porkies?

If you only have SDRAM then that is what's holding you back. Put it like this, my Pentium 3 uses SDRAM...

Why dont you have DDR in your system? Is it a P4/3 Celeron system that doesn't use DDR?

To be honest, I think I'm correct in saying that a 1700+ will do well to max a Ti4200. Here's an example for you. My machine is almost identical to my cousin's, behind me. His is a 2000+ XP with a Ti4400. Mine is a 2200+ XP with a Ti4200. Both give almost identical results in various benchmarks. However, I suspect it's cheaper (and more beneficial to the machine has a whole) to up the CPU a bit, rather than forking out for a graphics card which will be superseded before long. Hell, last time I checked, a 2000+ XP was 50 quid.

Getting back to the core issue though, you really do need to be runing DDR. With SD, you're running Ferrari on 12" wheels and never getting out of 2nd gear.

Time to check which motherboard you have (often written in white writing on the PCB itself) and verify which speed DDR ram you can utilise (probably PC1600 (200mhz) or PC2100(266mhz)).

            Ram makes all the difference.
