    Japanese Xbox not working

I ordered a winter green Xbox bundle from Play Asia with the 2 games included, and apparently he got it today and it's not working. He's plugged it into a 150w converter, yet it doesn't switch on. And he knows how to work an Xbox...and yes the power's on. He does mention "the power socket seems a bit wobbly"-any ideas? He says the converter worked before..

He probably has a US converter-would he need a separate one for a Jap console?

My power socket is a bit wobbly actually and the power cable makes crackling noises when i touch it or move it..

I think jap xboxes run at a different voltage but wait for someone else to clarify...

Sounds like it's broken. My Jap machine works fine with just a 125w stepdown

Oh after looking at play-asia it's an asian Xbox, contains a 220v power cord and one comment reads "Since this console is Asian my main concern was finding the proper power transformer, to operate the X-Box with. After that problem was solved, it was smooth sailing, but make sure you have a power transformer" does an asian Xbox need a different transformer?

AFAIK all Asian consoles operate on 220-240v, in which case you should NOT be using a 110v stepdown on it. What input voltage does it say on the Xbox?

Regarding that comment on playasia, it was probably written by someone living in a country with a 110v mains supply - hence why he needed to use a transformer.

Apparently the Xbox has a UK style 3 pin plug-should he be plugging the Xbox in as normal then or will it blow up?

It should be ok to use european power supply but it will be damaged if you use too much power. So contact Play-asia.com to confirm it is a japanese or asian XBOX just to be safe.

Look at the back of the Xbox near the power socket - it should show the input voltage that it requires.

It'll be fine, just plug it into the normal socket in the wall and it'll turn on.

He put it in the normal socket, didn't work or do a thing. On the back it says "220v-240v~1.2A -50HZ"

                      Then it must be dead,

If its 220v-240v it'll work normally on sockets here without any sort of adaptor.

                      Must be buggered.

Surley it just needs a Step down for Japanese machines?

No, as its an asian machine, which uses the same power rating as us..

With some switch mode power supplies plugging a 240V PSU into a 110V stepdown can cause damage - blown internal fuse or whatever as the PSU tries to take twice its rated current due to only half to voltage being present.

The video cable is connected, right? I found it a little odd that the xbox isn't too happy booting with no video cable... not very reasuring when I powered up the console on my workbench after chipping it!
