Xbox Live updates, what's going on

Now my chipped machine has blown up, I've pulled out my second Xbox that was waiting in the wings.

It already had Xbox live on the dashboard, but is asking for an update. The problem is though it's just sitting on the updating screen and doing nothing. Any ideas how long this should take?

The latest Live update took about 5-10mins to download for me but it could have been a busy server. The Live updates usually go very slow at first then speed up e.g. 5% then the rest in like seconds.

gamecentral (Channel4 p375) said the latest update (when xbl went down for the day) took them 15 mins. if they're on 512k then that'd make the update around 50mb.
i think it took about 7-10 on my 1mb but it did sit still for ages - 1-2 mins of nothing, then slowly the bar started increasing. i just left it for about 1/2 hour so i can't tell you exactly how long it took. do what i did - start it and ignore it and it should download while your back is turned...
