Anyone ever ordered from RiverService in Japan?

I've just been looking at the website of a company called RiverService who are an arcade distributor based in Japan.

From what i can make out they are quite happy to ship stuff worldwide and they seem to be selling used Astrocity II cabinets for 25000 Yen which converted into ? = about ?123.

I'm aware that shipping isn't going to be cheap, but even if you add another ?150 it still comes to less than ?300 which surely must be a good buy (even for a 2nd hand unit - which will probably be like new since its coming from Japan.)

I've emailed one of the English speaking staff for more information etc but i was just wondering if anyone here had any previous experience with the company?

Also if anyone else fancies one at that price then maybe if we get enough orders we could have a whole crate to ourselves. I might even treat myself to two units (one set vertical and the other horizontal) if we could get the shipping down considerably.

This guy has 16 new cabs, they look very similar to the AC cabs. I know someone who imported a AC cab from France and the postage was about ?300. Postvan.com will ship a cabinet in the UK for ?100 +VAT

        Hope that helps!

Because of the size of the cabinet it will needed to be crated (probably around ?40 to ?100) and shipped out via a shipping company (too large for most courier or postal companies). This could cost your around ?200 to ?400(and it'll be a 3 to 6 week delivery time), due to the size it will cost you the weight size rather then the weight.

Once in the UK you may need to pay customs, agents fees and probably another fee to get it delivered from the port. Oh and the screen is likely to not be cover by insurance due to the fragile nature of the screen, so if its ****ed on delivery then you may not be able to get any money back from insurance.

          Hope that helps....

Well aren't you a ray of sunshine?

I guess this may require a rethink...i'll wait and see what the company in Japan comes up with.

            Bastard.

See what the Japanese company say, make sure its crated and find out if it will be port to port shipping or to your door. Port to port means it gets to the port and the shipping agent will contact you and ask you if you want to collect it, get them to ship it to you, etc.

Sadly the chances of them marking it the customs down to to $10 is unlikely to work. Remember that the declared value is roughly what you can claim insurance on.

Make sure that you give them a telephone number that you can be reached on during the working week and ask them to put it on the shipping form and on the invoice as if the port agent can't contact you will get charge a daily storage rate which could be as high as ?40 a day... (So thats ?120 if they can't contact you on a friday...).

So make sure you have at least 100 to 200% of the cost of the unit to cover all the fees (and it still may be higher).

i was going to ask about those cabs, they look ok but are they any good?

?449 seems ok since getting one shipped from japan would be horrendous

a little out of my price range unless i sell all my consoles to fund it....

I'd be interested in buying one, depending on the price it will come to of course.

Still no answer to my email from RiverService

Perhaps its for the best and i'm kept away from temptation after reading some of the other posts in the thread.

EDIT - Forget that. I've just had an email pop up about 30 seconds after i added this post. Apparently they've sold out of AstroCity II's but they can send me a NetCity if i'm interested. Damn, i really fancied a little sit down cab.

From my own experience , importing a cabinet from Japan is around ?600.

And that only includes delivery to the nearest port.Expect to pay around 27% to get it out of customs ( VAT and duty ).

In my case I was only importing one cabinet, therefore you have to pay whats called a LCL ( Light container load) .This means the cabinet is crated and packed securely for travel.Of course the price is more economical if you order 5 or more cabinets.
