Someone mentioned something called Kerio (I think) a while back and said how good it was/is

Aye it is. Well the previous version is.... the latest one is dreadful.

Yeah, Kerio 4 (think that's the latest?) was annoying, but the older ones (ie Kerio ~2.15 etc) are very good. I don't think the engine changed, but the interface did, for the worse imho. Also found Kerio annoying when allowing MS networking, but that could have been me being a div.

I have been getting a lot more pop up requests saying "....... is trying to connect to the internet" recently which isn't good, they obviously want you to subscribe and part with your hard earned cash to get "fewer alerts"

            Kerio is free!

Besides, if you want to stop those requests, just put your protection up to "Deny all". Problem solved!

k i know im gonna get hammered for saying this BUT

ive used Norton Internet Security Pro (2002,2003,2004) for last 3 years, always been ok with me and my home network, used in conjunction with XP service pack 2 (okay i no its beta but the activeX/Java controls are a lot more reliable), mozilla browser i get almost 0% pop-ups/ hijacked web browsers/home pages etc and as for spyware completely clean too

spose others to try are Trend Micro Internet Security 11, Sygate Personal Firewall

they all seem to work fine for general home use

I'd go for Sygate Personal Firewall

                Quite niffty and very effective

Sygate was the one I chose in the end as it looked clean, and Kerio sounded hit and miss to if you got a good version or not, kinda like the Winamp 3 saga!

                    Thanks to all!
