Well I never did bother with the stress test in the end, a ..."friend" got me into the normal beta and i've been playing that and well im damn addicted.
I don't use the standard interface anymore I use Cosmos ui, it adds sooo much extra stuff it blows away the original UI, dont know why bliz dont hire the guy who made Cosmos and use that. Adds a second bar at the bottom, two side bars, clock, quest assistant (lil window that summarises quest so you dont ahve to keep opening quest screen) Thottbott data extraction (uploadin Character profile to thottbott website blah).
I have to say this is the first game i've actually enjoyed the Grind, quest leveling system is definately a lot more fun than mindless killing of creatures for no reason than to just get Xp.
Controls...pretty much exactly the same as EQ's. No problems with getting used to em as I played EQ for 3 years heh.
Ah combat, Starts off a bit dull but as a paladin i've found myself having lots of stuff to do in a group...one of the main things is running away if the group gets destroyed so I can res everyone...doesnt sound very paladin like really ^^.
Trades, well i've only tried Fishing, Mining, Herbology and Alchemy.
Alchemy is a really usefull craft for..well anyone imo, but to use it effectively I believe you need to be a Herbologist (is that even a real word) as making potions requires...herbs (who'da guessed it).
Mining is another supply Trade like herbology, you basically have Find Minerals ability on and if theres any Mineral veins/deposits nearby they show up on the mini map (similar thing with herbology), run over to said Vein right click it and your character starts mining and you will either fail or not. If you fail try try again. Certain types of minerals require a minimum level of Mining skill to be able to mine eg Gold Vein's require a minimum of 155 skill in mining.
Fishing is again another supply trade, bit different. You find a body of water with your fishing rod equiped and start fishing, character casts out line. Now there will be a bobber in the water and when that bobs up and down you have to right click it quickly before the fish gets away...minor twitch skills require ^_^ You can get some strange things from fishing heh, mostly I got Food type fish that you can eat while resting to give your hp regen a boost but occasionly I got weapons or stuff for other trades to use.
Uh..im getting bored now, im gonna go play some more. Ask a questions and i'll try to answer it ^^
EDIT: Just like to add, I used to think the game was a bag o' S*** before I played it. Thought the characters looked dum as well as the enviroments but now that i've tried it out...Im a die hard fanboi

I've been playing the stress test over the weekend as well and pretty much agree with Orgun. It's really very enjoyable and seems to be better thought out than Star Wars Galaxies (the only other game of this type that I've played). Still a few bugs to sort out - some NPCs get stuck in the scenery and you can't attack them, annoying when this stops you from completing a mission. Also, some monsters don't fall down when corpsified. I played a dwarf paladin and liked it, though I'll probably try out an undead character at some point.

Had a pretty neat experience yesterday, I play on the PvP server and was fighting in Duskwood (creepy zone full of undead) and as a Paladin I have spells that will only work on undead such as Turn undead, Excorism etc. I was there with a guildy doing some quests and a Horde player went running past, now we had heard on general chat that there had been horde players around. We would have legged it but he was only showing up as lvl 38 and we were 25 & 28, we can take him, while were giving chase I noticed he's one of the Undead race...so im like "hmm I wonder if my undead only spells also work on undead players" ...well they do ^^ Safe to say I nuked the hell out of him while my rogue partner backstabbed him to death.
I just thought that was pretty cool ^^ I've played many mmo's and there have been spells that work on a npc but if theres a pc who it would work on if they were an npc..most of the time the devs decide to not let it. I heart Blizzard ^^

Eurogamer are saying this isn't due out in Europe until 'early 2005'... What's going on there?
Now I'm going to have to lurk on Super Stu's board for *months* before I can post anything...Last edited by superkully; 16-09-2004, 12:46.

Yeah, I dunno wtf is going on in Blizzard central. Sounds to me as though retail will be a while yet and EU will be a "few weeks later", which could push us into next year. Better still, people outside the EU won't be able to play on EU servers initially (if at all), which dicks my clan and undoubtedly others. Apparently some much lamented PvP change was made too, although I was too cheesed off about the above to take note.
pie discussion and link to that wow forum post
Heh, join in on the off topic daily work rants if you want mate, no need to lurk.

Quick update lads.
It appears as though the US closed beta is drawing to a close, to be replaced with another server Stress Test (US). By the sounds of it, those with paid up FilePlanet accounts automatically get access to that. Shortly thereafter, Open US beta is due to start and, I assume, the game is on for the last planned release I saw of November 15th.
To play on US servers, you'll need to have a US billing address. Thank Vivendi for that.
Meanwhile, the EU closed beta continues, although with the US open beta due before long, I don't know how much longer this will continue for. US, Korea and Australia are all due to launch at the same time, with the EU following some weeks later (possible February 2005).
