    TV and AV cabinets

    Hey folks.

Can anybody recomend me a good AV and TV unit for all my gear to go into? Would Ikea be a good company to have a look at?

I need a fair amount of stuff to go in, Amp, DVD player, Centre Speaker (pretty big) 2 Xboxs, Gamecube and a Dreamcast.

Only trouble is, i'd need the amp to be in the middle, probably under the centre speaker. But most AV units I've seen don't have 2 largish centre shelves.

Witness probably the most popular AV stand around, about ?40 from Ikea:

    Thats my one btw.

I was looking at the Gaming thread and your picture inspired this post.

The only probaly you see, is I don't think the centre speaker and the amp would fit in. They definately wouldn't fit in either of the side sections, and probably not in the middle either, they'd need to be seperated by a shelf anyhoo.

You'res would be perfect, if the sections were just a bit deeper. Looks a lovely AV stand. Do they do slight variations of those? I'd really like one like yours.

It's such a pain. When i bought my QED speaker cables, because they were expensive, I didn't buy loads to play with, just enough to fit as long as my amp was in the middle. So I need to have my amp in the middle, or buy another 3 meters of cabling with banana plugs.

Oh and I don't suppose you could possibly measure the height of the side sections, and the centre one too could you? That's if you've got a ruler handy dude.

marcus, can you move the shelves up and down?

If so, I could put the amp on the left or right, with the dvd player above it, and then just buy some more cabling.

I've been doing alot of wood work at 6th form. Maybe my year 13 project could be to make a TV and AV rack? Bonus.

I measured this in CM - the shelves can be moved up and down to a total of 3 positions.

                    Try Argos.

I got my stand from there and it's very good. The top and bottom bits are about 1.5m wide (easily enough for my 28" TV on one side and some consoles on the other) and there are two adjustable shelves (about 75cm x 75cm) which can go in one of five positions between the top and bottom shelf

My stand is currently not in the catalogue but it might come back in next time

I recommend in investing in some proper AV stands for your amp and possibly centre speaker, and then buying whatever takes your fancy for the consoles. I always find racks make a large difference in sound quality, particularly in the base (which I imagine would good for the uses of your system).

That's an immense stand there neil. Got a close up of the Av gear so I can see how it fits and stuff?

Is it possible to put a shelf in the middle section, so I could raise the centre speaker off the ground a little?

It's going to be for my new plasma, If I was to have 2 ontop of each other, i'm not sure if it would be too high or not.

Right, i'm going to get one of these av stands soon. Any idea of the model number?

                          Cheers.

                            That's the badger.

The nearest store is about 2 hours drive away. Are there any sites that stock Ikea products that do delivery?

Not that I could find, I just had to drive though to my 'local' ikea. Make sure you take someone with you to help carry the item as its bloody heavy, also make sure it will fit in your car before you go through, unless you go for delivery. I almost had to drive with the stuff I bought right down the middle of the car Actually now that I think about it, give them a phone and ask if they can deliver it. I am sure there was a delivery option in store.
