Problem with broken images on some websites

Sorry if there is a simple solution to this problem but my PC knowledge amounts to 2 things, jack and **** and jack just left town. Basically on some websites like IGN for example all I get is either a red x or page cannot be displayed with certain images(mostly banners for some reason).

I've tried using browers other than IE e.g. firebird,netscape etc but it's made zero difference. Please tell me theres a simple solution to fixing this.

You might have some kind of ad blocker installed.

And or some similar prorgram has configured various known advert domains to point to 127.0.0.1 in your HOSTS file. Have a look for the above mentioned first though.

Prehaps it's timing out before all logo's etc are loaded ?
I know on the neo-geo fourms they have loads of smilies displayed on screen, hit refresh and you have 69 logo's to re-appear.
