is it normal for games booted via Freeloader to skip all its intros and logos and go straight to the main screen?

Also what is Boot method #3?

Freeloader has 3 boot methods.
#1: Place freeloader in the gamecube, turn machine on and swap disks when prompted.
#2: Boot without disk. Go to gameplay option to play the disk. Swap disks when prompted
#3: Press "Z" on boot and manually choose the region. So far this is the most reliable.

Do they assume you have the disc inside first? Do you hold down Z, or do you just press it when it asks you to insert disc?

No, it's not, but it's not unusual for it to screw up sometimes.

Pressing Z is done inside the actual program. You put the Freeloader in, boot up, lift the lid, Press Z, select region, and then drop whatever you want to play in.,
