Can I charge a UK Gameboy SP up in America???

I have a GameboySP that I brought in the uk from HMV, but I am going to the US for a holiday and wanted to know if I could charge it up in america with the same charge cable that you get with the SP without harming my SP.

I know we have around 220-240 as standard voltage here and in america they have 110 but would it harm my SP if I charged it up in America.

    Thanks

I don't think you'd harm the gba, just maybe wreck the psu. Unless the psu can switch and cope with the different voltage (and I don't think it does) you need a stepdown converter or a different psu.

I was thinking that the SP can take 220 then the 110 volts in America would not harm it. Also wouldn't i need a step up converter?

      Thanks for your help

Yeah, step up, not down. It's not like current, I believe you just need the psu to supply at least as much current as you need and the appliance will just drain the amps it needs. Voltage needs to be right.

If you have access to a laptop or something similar, just use a USB Charger. You can get them for about a fiver.

Yeah, you may as well stop by a game store out there and pick up a charger if possible. If the US is cheaper than here, youll be able to get one for nothing!

It will be easiest to buy a US charger.
The EBGames website has them for $10.
Shop GameStop, the world's largest retail gaming and trade-in destination for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games, systems, consoles & accessories. Shop a wide selection of gamer-centric apparel, collectibles & more.

I imagine you'll have no problem picking one up personally in store when in The States.

Also VG+ sell them for about ?7.

Can anyone confirm that supplying a charger with less voltage than it requires is harmful? I am going to have to charge a GBA, an electric razor and a mobile phone and there's no way I'll be able to buy local chargers for all of them.

electric razor should be dual voltage. Others will charge I reckon, but very slowly. [anti-sue clause]I'm not confirming it though[/anti-sue clause]

just look on the label on the chargers, if it says 100v-240v or something similar then it will work in the US, if it just says 230/240 then it won't
