XBOX ATX-style Power Supply on PC

Can it be used to power a PC? Same ATX connector, I see. I would like to use it for my Mame project and need things as low-powered and small as possible. The motherboard in question is a microATX one, the CPU is a VIA C3/800, the gfx card is a matrox mystique pci and the ram is 256mb pc133. the hdd will be about 5-10 gb and that's it, so all in all it's low-powered

I know the xbox psu supplies about 145-160W

has anyone tried it? is it all fine?

The question begs, why do you want it low powered?

I would use a standard 300w ATX PSU if mainly because the more powered the board draws from a low wattage board the hotter it's likely to get and a fan cooled 300W PSU is unlikely to get as hot...

As a side note, I just whacked in a full sized tower unit into an arcade machine and it works fine.

well i've mentioned the specs, and the via is meant to be low-powered, but i see your point

thing is, i won't be upgrading, and the total number of components is listed. besides if i didn't use the xbox atx i've got a 110W proper pc atx psu to use instead. but the xbox psu is more powerful anyway, and the 110W psu doesn't break a sweat (i've tested it by hooking up a few hdd's and running the machine for a day or so

thanks for that but trying to keep the cost down. however, i checked out their site and they have the shuttle psu's that are 200W

in other news, i've scrapped the xbox psu idea as looking at the pinouts for all the various versions (1.0-1.6) shows the psu just isn't ATX-standard. I managed to bag me a shuttle psu for ?31 (inc p&p) from ebay a few hours ago.

i'm also gonna get a pci riser card so the gfx card sits horizontally across the board

and if all goes according to plan, i'll shove the whole lot inside an xbox case!
