Soul Caliber II, how the hell can I win ???

Got SCII on the GC,, not really played fighting games since the SNES days of SF2 but I really wanna get into this and own my non gaming mates who are beating me in friendlys atm but pressing one button all the time!

Whos the best characters to use, what are the best and easy to pull off combos in your opinion?

    Learn to block perhaps?

Try Talim or Taki for quick cheese wins. Theres always Raphael too. This should see you right in a button bash.

Put some effort learning one character, get familiar with their moves and develop your own combos. Once you find the moves you think are effective and your comfortable, you should hold up far better. My man's Mitsurugi, all about the style.

blocks dont seem to work though

Do i have to block the exact time they attack or can u block early like the old sf2 games?

Been trying to play with Link but im ****e atm!

Dunno about 2, but I've always favoured Kilik. He's got quite a sick reach which suits a more defensive style of play.

If it's a button bashing fest, then Kilik or Seung Mina should be able to fend them off from a distance (Kilik having marginally longer reach IIRC). As Yashiro said above, Talim or Taki are probably best in the speed department.

Seriously though, I'd suggest you pick a character and take them into practice mode. Pay attention to what you're pressing, take a look at the moves list, and work on actual technique. Weapon Master mode helps.

Yeah you can hold block whenever you like. Just remember a standing block won't defend against a low hit.

But if you press "back and block" it'll do a parry. Time it just as they hit and you'll get a chance to counterattack. Or just be cheesy and hold Block.

I use Kilik/Mitsurugi. Kilik's got some awesome combos and decent ways of getting them up in the air.

                And don't use Link! He's gh3y

Link has some cool specials assigned to the the C-stick. Throw some bombs on them then arrow them when they try to get up

Oh and Tom, Link is all about the pussy!!

Link is cheesy as ****, and the GC pad with it's "EO" mode doesn't help things!

Heres a simple way to beat them, play as Mitsurugi, side step their attack then press Down and A (Horizontal Slash) (Fastest down A in the game). Then press A, A. You should pull a 3 hit combo, now lather, rinse and repeat.

Or choose Cervantes Quarter circle backwards and press B (Vertical Slash), you'll do a psycho crusher style move that covers distance, then just repeat. Be careful of ringing yourself out though.

P.S. Don't bother learning Link / Heihachi / Spawn right away as you need to learn a character in all the versions (arcade / PS2 / GC / Xbox) if you want to be able to play round mates houses or when your out.

                      Luke.

If you wanna find combo's etc then look at GameFaqs character guides. Although I've found learning your own is better and MUCH more satisfying.

I just started playing this last night with my husband..and at the beginning I was kicken ass and really didnt have a clue to what I was doing just kept pushing the green and grey button making sure to hit the yellow one evey now and again for that special power.

people I was winning with were kilik, and all the ladies of the game I was succesful 2 rounds with ivy

I dont know why you guys dont like kilik I found he was really good with his big ol stick and he helped beat my man several times!

Cervantes has some awesome moves. And they're easy to pull off. Try playing as him.

Cella - the only 'problem' with Kilik is how dangerous a random button masher is on him, hence why you were getting along with the guy famously to start with. With practice, any character can be as deadly, but for those wanting an easy start he's great.

pfttt, you only beat me those few times because for some daft reason or other my health on the following round started at 50%, I thought it was dead odd I was losing. Once I caught on I reset to default settings, stopped pissing about using characters I'd forgotton to use and switched to Mitsurugi. Mitsurugi is the BEST of the lot for me, not forgotton a single move, combo or float.
