    Graphics Card Tech Demo's

A while back I had a website address where you could freely download 3D animation demos simply for tech / visual purposes, they are not playable and are not movies, they are real-time animations to show the latest techniques in graphics rendering, a little like the tech demos the likes of ATI and NVidia make when showcasing a new peice of kit. You can get the 3Dmark benchmarking program, but I just wanted them for pure visual splender, alot are classed as screensavers.

Any help on where to get this kind of thing would be great!

Can't remember any urls off the top of my head, but a quick search for GLexcess will find you that demo at least. Been out a while now but definately worth a watch.

It's also worth having a look here:

      Futuremark.com

Here you can get the 3DMark03 Tech demo, very nice to look at, doubles up by benchmarking your system!

The actual nVidia website has all their tech demos available for download, but that is only of any use to you if you've got the relevant card. In order to be a pain in the arse, it checks to see which card you're running and just throws up a big fat 'give us more money' message if you try to run a demo that wasn't written for a 'better' one.

Anyone know the name of that beautiful one where you had a first person view of an alien world, packed with vegetation and alien life. You had a torch which could be used to light up dark areas or cast different light effects onto opjects. Had some real nice lighting effects, caves and open plains. The name of it totally escapes me though, but its the nicest gfx demo Ive seen. Might be called something-garden...

Would that be Aquamark? I know that was alien-like lol.

              You're right.

I remember in the old days, you'd look through magazines for audio/visual
demo's, sit back and be amazed.

It's sad that the world has become so grey that not many people even can
concieve such demo's anymore or why they existed. In their day they were
truely exhilarating and inspirational, hugely missed now, I think their absence
contributes to why I feel so empty and depressed these days. Games and
benchmark programs just seem weak in comparison, to relaxing watching
thumping music flying through vortexes whilst lamas spin & gallap around on
your screen making strange noises & changing colour to the music.

                If you haven't seen already,

One of my favourite tech demos and stunningly relaxing to look at.

Cheers guys, I like tech demos, some of them are really impressive. Reminds me of the Amiga days where the rivalry between the coders was producing some amazing stuff.
